QMC Entrance to Medical School Entrance

  • Enter the QMC via the main entrance on Derby Road.
  • There are two sets of double automatic doors at the entrance.
  • The doors are 157cm wide.
  • Go through the doors and turn right.
  • The Fontanella CafĂ© is on the right and Blood Test waiting area is on the left.
  • Continue ahead through four sets of double doors.
  • The double doors are permanently held open.
  • The second set of doors is signed West Block Floor B.
  • Continue ahead for 25 meters then turn left.
  • There is signage for the Medical School - see photograph 7.
  • Follow the corridor for 45 meters then turn right.
  • After a further 6 meters turn left.
  • The entrance to the Medical School is immediately ahead.

Medical School Entrance to Lift

  • There are double doors to enter the Medical School.
  • The doors are 150cm wide, open outwards and are heavy to open.
  • The signage above the doors states You are now entering the Medical School Building.
  • Go through the doors and continue ahead for 8 meters.
  • The surface of the floor is carpet.
  • After 8 meters turn right and follow the corridor for 52 meters.
  • There is signage for the Medical School Main Entrance and Footbridge to University Campus.
  • There are two sets of double doors which are permanently held open.
  • The corridor has handrails on both sides.
  • At the end of the corridor turn left.
  • Continue ahead for 16 meters into the foyer for the Medical School.
  • Turn right towards the entrance to the footbridge.
  • The Student Services Centre is on the left.
  • There is an automatic single door on the left side of the exit.
  • The width of the door is 102cm.
  • Go through the door and onto the walkway.
  • There is an easy uphill slope at the start of the walkway.
  • Keep to the left over the walkway.
  • The walkway is 52 meters long.
  • At the end of the walkway turn right to the lift.
  • Take the lift to Floor A.

Lift (University Park Building Link)

  • The lift is located straight ahead as you enter the University Park Building Link entrance.
  • The lift is clearly visible from the entrance.
  • The lift is approximately 9m (9yd 2ft) from the University Park Building Link entrance.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • A member of staff does not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G and 1.
  • The weight limit for the lift is 1250kg.
  • Clear signs indicating the facilities on each floor are provided on lift lobby landings.
  • There is a clear level manoeuvring space of 150cm Ă— 150cm in front of the lift.
  • Lift doors do not contrast visually with lift lobby walls.
  • The external controls for the lift are within 90cm - 110cm from the floor.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift controls and the control plate is high.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift control plate and the wall is medium.
  • The clear door width is 110cm (3ft 7in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 200cm x 140cm (6ft 7in x 4ft 7in).
  • There are not separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.

Lift to Coates Road

  • On exiting the lift continue ahead to the double automatic doors.
  • There is an easy downhill slope to the doors.
  • The doors open outwards and are 173cm wide.
  • Go through the doors and turn left then take the path on the left.
  • There are three bollards at the start of the path.
  • The bollards are 98cm high and there is 96cm between them.
  • The bollard do not have a visual identification strip but do contrast well with the surface of the path.
  • The surface of the path is concrete paving for 6 meters before changing to tarmac.
  • The tarmac is uneven in places.
  • The path is an easy uphill slope for 18 meters before becoming steep for a further 17 meters.
  • There is bench seating on the left.
  • At the end of the path turn left onto Coates Road.

Coates Road to Science Road

  • At Coates Road turn left.
  • Continue along Coates Road for 21 meters to the entrance road to Delivery Point A.
  • The gradient of the pavement is an easy downhill slope.
  • At the entrance to Delivery Point A there is a dropped kerb on both sides of the entrance.
  • There is no tactile paving at the dropped kerbs.
  • This is a no through road delivery entrance and traffic will come from the left and right.
  • The entrance road is 4 meters wide.
  • After crossing the entrance road continue along Coates Road for 31 meters.
  • Entrances 4 and 3 to the Coates Building are on the right.
  • There is a security post in the pavement on the right which may cause an obstruction as it leans to the left - see photograph 5.
  • After 31 meters turn left by the Coates Road Auditorium.
  • There are bollards on the right.
  • The bollards are 94cm high with a width of 282cm between them.
  • The bollards do not have any identification strips but do contrast with the pavement.
  • Continue ahead past the Auditorium for 65 meters to the entrance road which leads to the Biodiscovery Institute.
  • There is car parking on the left after 25 meters.
  • There is tactile paving across the path at the car parking.
  • The path surface is tarmac and the gradient is level.
  • There is a short steep uphill slope just before the entrance road with a bollard on the left.
  • To cross the entrance road there are level kerbs
  • There is no tactile paving on either side of the entrance road.
  • The entrance road is 4 meters wide.
  • After crossing the entrance road continue ahead for 22 meters to two zebra crossings on the right.
  • Go past the first zebra crossing and continue ahead for 15 meters to the second zebra crossing at the end of the road.

Science Road Zebra Crossing

  • At the end of the path turn right on Science Road.
  • There is a zebra crossing at this point.
  • There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving at both sides of the crossing.
  • The zebra crossing is 5 meters.
  • The road is a delivery road only and traffic comes from the left and right.

Science Road Crossing to First Delivery Road Crossing

  • Along Science Road there are three no through road delivery roads to cross.
  • There are no marked crossings on any of the delivery roads.
  • After crossing the zebra crossing continue ahead to the first delivery road to cross.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac and the gradient is level.
  • The entrance to the Wolfson Building is on the right after 11 meters.
  • The delivery road has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
  • The road is 4 meters to cross and traffic comes from the left and right.
  • There is a lamppost on the right at the dropped kerb.

First Delivery Road Crossing to Second Delivery Road Crossing

  • After crossing the first delivery road continue ahead.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac and the gradient is level.
  • The entrance to the Hearing Science is on the right after 8 meters.
  • There are bench seats and a lamppost on the right.
  • There are green railings on the right at the end of the road.
  • After 22 meters is the second delivery road to cross.
  • The delivery road has dropped kerbs and tactile pavings on both sides.
  • The road is 7 meters wide and traffic comes from the left and right.

Second Delivery Road Crossing to Third Delivery Road Crossing

  • After crossing the second delivery road continue ahead to the third delivery road crossing.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac and the gradient is level.
  • After 19 meters along the path there is a post in the middle of the path which reduces the width to 80cm - see photograph 2.
  • Continue for a further 9 meters to the delivery road.
  • The delivery road has dropped kerbs on both sides with tactile paving.
  • The delivery road is 7 meters wide.
  • Traffic comes from the left and right.

Third Delivery Road Crossing to Psychology

  • After crossing the third delivery road continue along the path.
  • The surface of the path is tarmac and the gradient is level.
  • After 9 meters there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the left.
  • A further 2 meters along the path is a grate which is slightly raised.
  • There is a bus stop on the right after 13 meters.
  • The bus stop is St Peter's Court.
  • 10 meters past the bus stop there is a University Campus Map on the right.
  • At the end of the path there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the left.
  • The surface of the path now changes to patterned block paving.
  • Ahead on the opposite side of the road is Nottingham Lakeside Arts.
  • At the end of the road turn right.
  • The south entrance to University Park is on the left.
  • The gradient of the path becomes a steep uphill.
  • The path is uneven in places
  • The stepped entrance to Psychology is ahead.
  • Follow the path on the left of the steps.
  • Continue ahead for 31 meters past the zebra crossing on the left.
  • Psychology is on the right.
