Access Guide
Introduction
- The following information describes the route from Highbury & Islington Station to the Emirates Stadium.
- The approximate distance of this route is 1.1 km.
- The route takes approximately 13-15 minutes.
- The route leads along Holloway Road, Drayton Park and Benbow Road.
- The majority of paths consist of paving slabs with some slight gradients in places.
- The potential hazards along this route include busy roads, crossing points, uneven surfaces and congested pathways.
Highbury and Islington Station
- There is step-free access via lift, leading from the London Overground platforms to the station concourse area.
- There is not step-free access from the London Underground platforms (Victoria Line and Great Northern Railway services).
- There are no toilet facilities at this station.
- There is step-free access when exiting the station.
Highbury and Islington Station to Holloway Road Crossing
- When exiting the station, turn left and continue along Holloway Road.
- Follow the pathway for approximately 60 metres until you reach Holloway Road crossing.
- There is signage directing you towards the stadium.
- The surface of the pathway is tarmac.
- There is a slight gradient along the path.
- The path is uneven in places.
Holloway Road Crossing
- This crossing is used for access to the east side of Holloway Road.
- On crossing Holloway Road, traffic will be coming from your right and then your left.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both side of the road.
- Each crossing point is controlled by a visual indicator.
- The visual indicators are activated by push buttons.
- There are rotating cones at the base of the push button boxes to indicate when it is safe to cross.
- After completing the crossing, turn left and continue along Holloway Road.
Holloway Road Crossing to Fieldway Crescent Crossing
- Continue along the east side of Holloway Road for approximately 380 metres.
- The surface of the pathway is mainly paving slabs, however there is some block paving in places.
- After 45 metres you will cross over two driveways.
- The surface of the first driveway is tarmac.
- The surface of the second driveway is cobbled, which is uneven.
- There are dropped kerbs on both sides of the driveways; however there is no tactile paving.
- After crossing, continue along the path for approximately 235 metres.
- At this point you will cross a third driveway.
- The surface of the third driveway is cobbled, which is uneven.
- There is no tactile paving at this crossing.
- When crossed, continue along the pathway until you reach Fieldway Crescent crossing.
Fieldway Crescent Crossing
- There are two pedestrian crossing points across Fieldway Crescent.
- There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving at each crossing point.
- The first crossing point is a cycle path.
- Caution should be taken due to bicycles coming from both directions.
- At the second crossing point, vehicle traffic will be coming from your left.
- There are no pedestrian crossing signals at this crossing point.
- The road and cycle path surfaces consist of tarmac.
- After completing the crossing, continue along Holloway Road.
Fieldway Crescent Crossing to Drayton Park Crossing
- Continue along Holloway Road for approximately 85 metres.
- The surface of the pathway is mainly paving slabs and is slightly uneven in places.
- After approximately 20 metres you will cross a driveway.
- The surface of the driveway is block paving.
- When crossed, continue along the path until you reach Ronalds Road crossing.
- There are no pedestrian crossing signals at this crossing point.
- This crossing point has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides of the road.
- Ronalds Road is one-way and traffic will be coming from your right.
- On crossing the road continue along the path.
- After approximately 20 metres you will cross two driveways to a petrol station.
- Both driveways have tactile paving.
- The surface of the driveways is cobbled and very uneven.
- When crossed, continue along the path until you reach Drayton Park crossing.
Drayton Park Crossing
- This crossing point is controlled by traffic lights.
- There are no visual indicators or push button controls at this crossing.
- Dropped kerbs and tactile paving are on both sides of the road.
- The road surface consists of tarmac.
- Once across the road, bear right onto Drayton Park.
Drayton Park Crossing to Benwell Road Crossing
- The surface of the pathway is paving slabs, however there is some block paving in places.
- The path surface is uneven in places.
- There are manhole covers in places along the path.
- The pathway narrows to 110cm in places due to signposts.
- After approximately 38 metres you will cross a driveway.
- The driveway surface consists of block paving and is very uneven.
- The dropped kerb onto the driveway varies in height.
- When crossed continue ahead until you reach Benwell Road crossing.
Benwell Road Crossing
- Benwell Road crossing has two crossing points.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving at each crossing point.
- This crossing point is a zebra crossing so there are no visual or audible indicators.
- On crossing the first section, traffic will be coming from your right.
- At the second section, traffic will be coming from your left.
- On completing the crossing, turn left and head towards the outer concourse.
Benwell Road Crossing to the Outer Concourse
- Continue along Benwell road for approximately 310 metres.
- The surface of the pathway is mainly paving slabs, however there is some block paving in places.
- The pathway narrows at one point to 100cm due to a telephone cable box.
- After approximately 155 metres you will cross Bryantwood Road.
- There are dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides of the road.
- This is a cycle route, so caution should be taken when crossing.
- On crossing, cycles will be coming from your right and then your left.
- Once across, continue along the pathway to Queensland Road crossing point.
- This crossing point has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides of the road.
- Traffic will be coming from your right and then your left.
- Once across Queensland Road continue along the pathway.
- There are bollards to access the outer concourse.
- There is step-free access onto the outer concourse.
