Trails

  • The Meadow Trail is around the southern part of the reserve. It is about 1.5 miles long and includes squeeze gates and a set of steps. The trail takes approximately 1 hour to walk.
  • The Heron Trail, north of the visitors centre includes two hides: the Hayden Hide and the Kingfisher Hide. The trail is about two miles long and takes approximately 1.5 hours to walk.
  • Wheelchairs can gain access using a RADAR key.
  • The River Trail, which uses the Ouse Valley Way and parts of the Heron and Meadow Trails, is 3.5 miles long and takes approximately 2 hours. This trail includes one set of steps.
  • Squeeze gates located on the trails are approximately 122cm wide.
  • Pathways on the trails are both surfaced and unsurfaced.
  • The Heron trail has the greatest amount of surfaced pathways.
  • Surfaces are made up of compacted earth and loose chippings with areas of grass. They are uneven in places.
  • The hides are accessible via easy slopes. The Hayden hide is accessed via a single, heavy door that opens towards you and is a 100cm. The Haydon hide also has lowered viewing windows.
