Access Guide
Introduction
- The following information describes the route from West Brompton Station to Stamford Bridge.
- The approximate distance of this route is 1.5km.
- The route takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes.
- The route leads along Lillie Road (A3218), through Brompton Cemetery, and down Fulham Road (A304) to the ground via Stamford Gate.
- The paths along the route consist of flagstone paving or tarmac, with some slight gradients and uneven sections in places.
- Signage directing you to the stadium is not provided along this route.
- The potential hazards on this route include; uneven surfaces and congested pathways.
West Brompton Station
- There is step-free access via lift, leading from the station platforms to the station exit.
- Toilet facilities are not available at this station.
- There is step-free access when exiting the station.
- Car parking facilities are not available at the station.

West Brompton Station to Brompton Cemetery
- As you exit West Brompton Station there is a 125cm gap through the barriers.
- As you pass the station front the paving is uneven due to drain covers and rain gutters.
- There is also a slight cross slope from left to right.
- Follow the pavement along Lillie Road.
- After approximately 30m you will cross a gated driveway with a block paved surface.
- After approximately 90m pass West Brompton Station Bus Stop (U).
- The gap past the covered bus stop is 130cm.
- At approximately 110m the pavement turns to the right around the lay-by at the entrance of Brompton Cemetery.
- The pavement narrows to 100cm past a dropped kerb at the turning point and then to 95cm as you pass under scaffolding, before reaching the entrance on the right.
- At the entrance to the cemetery there is a 4cm lip from the pavement down to the access road.
- Vehicles use this entrance to access and exit the cemetery so pedestrians should take caution.
Brompton Cemetery to Fulham Road
- The route through Brompton Cemetery is mainly along the central driveway.
- There is step-free access throughout this part of the route.
- There is a bench seat on the left shortly after the entrance.
- The surface of the driveway and footpath is tarmac and level.
- Follow the driveway for approximately 650m until you reach the chapel.
- At the chapel follow a footpath around to the left of the building.
- Take the first left turning and follow the footpath as it bends around to the right towards the exit.
- There is a bench seat on the left just before the exit.
- After approximately 850m from the entrance you will reach the cemetery exit.
- The gates at the exit are permanently held open, this is also an access point for vehicles so care should be taken.
- The surface at the exit is cobbled.
- This exit gives access to Fulham Road.
Fulham Road to the Outer Concourse
- After exiting the cemetery turn right onto Fulham Road.
- There is a 2cm lip on to the pavement which consists of a flagstone surface and is slightly uneven in places.
- There is a slight right to left cross slope on this section of the path.
- After approximately 90m you will pass the Hortensia Road Bus Stop (H/D).
- The gap past the bus stop is 140cm.
- The path then crosses a side road called St Mark's Grove.
- There are dropped kerbs on both sides of the crossing but no tactile paving.
- At this crossing point traffic can come from both directions.
- On the next section of the path there are some narrower sections past raised shop fronts, lamp posts and cycle stands.
- The narrowest section is 135cm.
- After approximately 170m the path crosses Billing Road.
- There are dropped kerbs on both sides of the crossing with tactile paving.
- At this crossing point traffic can come from both directions.
- Continue along the path past the Chelsea Pensioner Pub.
- There is a slight uphill slope as the path leads up to the railway bridge.
- The path narrows to 135cm over the bridge where there are railings on the left hand side.
- The path then slopes downhill to the entrance to the stadium at Stamford Gate.
- Turn right through the bollards into the site.
- There is a 136cm gap between the bollards.
- Follow the block paving path slightly downhill and cross the Millennium Hotel access road.
- The path is flush with the access road and there is no tactile paving.
- Continue along the block paving path and you will reach the outer concourse area.
- There is step-free access onto the outer concourse.
Traffic Exclusion Zone
- On matchdays Fulham Road can be closed to traffic up to two and half hours before kick-off until two and half hours after the final whistle (the length of closure depends on the fixture).
Outer Concourse
- The outer concourse has either a tarmac or a block paving surface. All stands are accessible via the outer concourse.
There are some slight slopes located along the concourse. - On matchdays there are independent food stalls and mobile counters selling matchday programmes located around the concourse.
On the Shed End Wall there are photographs and information about Chelsea legends. - All entrances into the stadium have step-free access but there are some very easy slopes along the outer concourse.
There is a steep slope leading up to the East Stand Lower and Upper turnstiles. - Clear directional signage is provided on the concourse.
- There is a stadium plan/map on the concourse.
- There is a steward/member of staff available for assistance on match days.
