Section 1. Spurriergate and Market Street to New Street

  • The length of this section is approximately 129m.
  • This section is pedestrianised.
  • This section is level with very slight slopes from left to right.
  • The paving is block paved with concrete tiles to the sides and is uneven in places.
  • Some areas have tarmac patches.
  • There are drainage gutters running parallel with the block paving and paving slabs on the left causing uneven surfaces.
  • Other uneven surfaces include metal drainage covers.
  • There are bollards on the paved area on the left at the beginning of the route.
  • The bollards are 103cm high. They have a high contrast with the paving and have a visual identification band.
  • Vehicle access to the streets is limited to delivery vehicles from 17:00 to 10:30 daily and to Blue Badge holders at any time.
  • Vehicles use the block paved central area of this section.
  • From 17:00 to 10:30 the area can be very busy with delivery vehicles.

Section 2. New Street to St Helen's Square

  • The length of this section is approximately 93m.
  • This section is pedestrianised.
  • Access between New Street and Coney Street is via a steep downhill gradient. This section has a slight slope running uphill along Coney Street towards
  • St Helens Square.
  • Some of the restaurants, bars, and the cinema along this section are accessed via a spur leading off the west side of the street between the 3 Store and the Church of St Martin le Grand.
  • The spur has bollards at the beginning at a height of 88cm.
  • The bollards have a high colour contrast with the paving.
  • The paving is block paved with concrete tiles to the sides and is uneven in places.
  • There are drainage gullies running along the left between the paving slabs and block paving.
  • There are bollards on the pavement at the point where Coney Street meets St Helens Square.
  • The bollards are 99cm high and have a high colour contrast with the pavement. They have a visual identification band.
  • Vehicle access to the streets is limited to delivery vehicles from 17:00 to 10:30 daily and to Blue Badge holders at any time.
  • Vehicles use the block paved central area of this section.
