Access Guide
Introduction
- York’s Visitor Information Centre relocated to 1 Museum Street in May 2010. In designing the new facilities extensive consideration has been given to accessibility – this was the first priority in considering our move from De Grey Rooms, and was taken into account in the relocation to a listed building. A lift has been installed to enable full disabled access to the ground floor visitor information area. Counters have been established with wheelchair users in mind. A hearing loop is available and two staff have been trained in British Sign Language to assist people who are hard of hearing. All staff have completed a “Welcome All” course. .
- Staff use the Visitor Guide which highlights accommodation that is wheelchair or otherwise disabled-friendly. Staff visit the accommodation providers to see first hand the facilities on offer and report this information back to other members of the team.
