Introduction

  • Tayside Deaf Hub is the first of its kind in Scotland, in that the concept for it and the driving force behind it has been deaf people themselves. They identified the services needed for deaf people to be empowered to lead independent lives on an equal basis with hearing people. Tayside Deaf Hub is based on partnership working between Deaf Links, Dundee Deaf Sports and Social Club (DDSSC) and Tayside Deaf Forum(TDF).
  • Deaf Links is the lead organisation, providing advocacy, advice, information, training, literacy, volunteering opportunities, employability and confidence building activities. There is also a social enterprise Café, No 23, which is open to the public 6 days a week and there are rooms and a hall available for hire at reasonable rates for a wide variety of purposes, from meetings and training to conferences or karate, zumba and dancing classes.
  • Dundee Deaf Sports and Social Club (DDSSC) meet at Tayside Deaf Hub and arrange a range of social and sporting activities and events for deaf people, alongside a youth club for deaf children and young people which has never been available before.
  • Tayside Deaf Forum are the campaigning arm of the Deaf Community and raise issues with service providers and agencies regarding access and information for deaf people, ensuring their rights are respected and they are treated on an equal basis.
