  • About View
    • The venue is a museum depicting fictional stories with exhibitions, a cafe and a shop.
  • Parking and Public Transport View
  • Getting In and Around View
    • There is step-free level access at the most accessible entrance.
    • There is step-free level access throughout, this may include the use of a lift.
    • The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the entrance to the ticket office, the access to the Alice Exhibition, the entrance to the Treasure Chamber exhibition.
    • Access throughout may include manual doors and automatic doors.
    • The ground, first and second floors can be accessed via a standard lift, a platform lift and stairs.
    • The following facilities are available: a seat/chair, a hearing assistance system, portable hoists, mobility scooter charging facilities and a water bowl for assistance dogs. Please check in advance for charges and if you need to pre-book.
    • Additional equipment which can be borrowed or hired includes: The portable hearing assistance equipment is available in the shop.
    • The venue can provide British Sign Language interpreters, large print documents, Makaton, an audio description service and virtual tours.
    • Staff receive the following training: Disability Awareness Training/Visual Awareness Training/Makaton.
    • Please note that British Sign Language interpreters are only available for some events.

    • The Changing Places toilet facilities are located within the accessible toilet on the ground floor.
    • The maximum weight for the changing bench is 150kg.

Entrance

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building on Pembroke Street.
  • There is step-free level access at the entrance.
  • There are double manual gates at this entrance.
  • The gates are permanently held open.
  • The width of the opening is 300cm.

Counter (Ticket Office and Shop)

  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.

Getting Around

Changing Places (Ground Floor - Left Hand Transfer)

    • The door has a twist lock.

  • Toilet Details View
    • There is a lateral transfer space to the left as you face the toilet.

    • There is a horizontal grab rail on the non-transfer side.

Parent and Baby Room / Feeding Room (Ground Floor)

  • There is pictorial signage on or near the door.
  • There is step-free level access into the room.
  • The door opens inwards.
  • The width of the door opening is 80cm.
  • There is a toilet, a wash basin, a hand dryer, a coat hook and a baby changing table in the room.
  • The wash basin has a sensor tap.
  • The room has a waste bin and a nappy/incontinence items bin.
  • There are two toilets, at different heights to suits adults or children.

Lift (Standard Lift)

  • The lift surveyed is located in the courtyard.
  • The journey time to this lift from the ticket office is approximately less than a minute.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and automatic doors.
  • The ground floor, first floor and second floor are accessed by this lift.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 110cm.
  • All of the internal lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • Internally the lift has: a mirror to aid reversing, a hearing assistance alarm system, a visual floor indicator, an audible announcer and a list of floor services/facilities.
  • There is also a platform lift to access the first floor, which is located near the cloakroom.

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located to the left of the lift.
  • Ground floor, first floor and second floor can be accessed by these stairs.
