Route from Penryn Train Station to Peter Lanyon East via the Sidings Residences

Introduction

Penryn Train Station and Car Park

  • The station is on the line from Falmouth Docks to Truro.
  • The station has its own car park.
  • To access the station there are 3 deep steps with handrails on either side (photographs 2, 3, 4 and 5).
  • These steps are clearly marked and have tactile paving at both the top and bottom.
  • The steps can be bypassed by a slight slope with a width of 135cm and handrails on either side (photographs 6, 7 and 8).
  • The entrance is located off the car park area for the station.
  • Also located off the car park is the Sidings Accommodation (photograph 9).
  • In front of you on exiting the station is a pathway across the car park with tactile paving on either side (photographs 10 and 11).

Station Road to Treliever Road

  • Head to Treliever Road, a distance of approximately 160 metres.
  • Turn right and cross the station car park entrance road, which has tactile dropped kerbs on either side (photographs 1 and 2).
  • Upon reaching the far side of the road continue left across the road.
  • The crossing has tactile dropped kerbs on either side and a tactile paved central island (photographs 4 and 5).
  • Turn left and continue to down the hill to Treliever Road (photographs 6 to 11).
  • The width of the pavement is 100cm.
  • On approach to Treliever Road is a crossing across Station Road with tactile paving on both sides (photographs 13 and 14).

Treliever Road to Harbour View

  • Cross Treliever Road and turn left to Harbour View, a distance of approximately 170 metres.
  • Turn right and cross Treliever Road which has tactile dropped kerbs on either side of the road (photographs 2 and 3).
  • Turn left and continue along the path to Harbour View.
  • The pathway is 100cm in width and is occasionally impinged upon by plant foliage.
  • After a short while there is a tunnel (photographs 4 and 5).
  • Immediately after the tunnel there are workshop service roads (photograph 6).
  • Entrances to the service roads have uneven surfaces and adverse camber.
  • There is a bus stop along the path with seating and a cloistered roof (photograph 9).
  • This bus stop serves routes 69a, 231, U1 and U2.
  • Shortly before reaching Harbour View there is a lamp post restricting the width of the pavement to 80cm (photograph 10).

Harbour View to Glenn View

  • Head onto Glenn View, a distance of approximately 45 metres.
  • Cross Harbour View which has tactile dropped kerbs on either side (photographs 1 and 2).
  • After crossing, turn immediately left and cross Treliever Road which also has tactile dropped kerbs on either side of the road (photographs 3 and 4).
  • Turn right and continue on to Glenn View. The width of the pavement is approximately 100cm (photograph 5).

Glenn View to Penryn Campus Pedestrian Entrance

  • Cross Glenn View and continue on until reaching the Penryn Campus Main Reception, a distance of approximately 160 metres.
  • The crossing over Glenn View has tactile dropped kerbs on either side of the tarmac road (photographs 1 and 2).
  • The surface of the pavement is tarmac.
  • After crossing the road there is approximately 95 metres until reaching Greenwood Road.
  • Greenwood Road has tactile dropped kerbs on either side (photographs 8 and 9).
  • After this continue to the pedestrian entrance to the campus.
  • The pavement is restricted to 103cm as you approach the entrance.

Penryn Campus Pedestrian Entrance to Crossroads

  • Turn left into the pedestrian entrance and follow it all the way to the crossroads, a total distance of approximately 650 metres.
  • The pedestrian entrance has bollards with a separation of 120cm (photographs 2 and 3).
  • At the beginning of the tarmac path there is a slight slope leading uphill (photographs 4 and 5).
  • After 190 metres to the right of the path is the first of numerous direct routes into the campus with 15+ steps (photograph 6).
  • During wet conditions the light from street lamps may reflect off the path (photograph 7).
  • After 310 metres there are bicycle racks on the left (photograph 8).
  • After 510 metres is a boarded walkway and gravel path on the left (photograph 9).
  • As you proceed the slope becomes increasingly steep (photographs 10, 11 and 12).
  • Upon reaching the crossroads there is a 140cm gap between the bollards (photograph 13).

Crossroads to Peter Lanyon West

  • Turn right at the crossroads and continue for 165 metres until Peter Lanyon West (Institute of Photography).
  • Continue past bollards with spacing of 122cm (photograph 1).
  • Towards the Peter Lanyon Buildings there is a slight slope.
  • There is seating along the path (photograph 3).
  • On the approach to the Peter Lanyon Buildings the surface changes to gravel (photograph 7).

Peter Lanyon West to Peter Lanyon East

  • Continue straight ahead across the Peter Lanyon West Courtyard, keeping right (photographs 1 and 2).
  • The surface of the courtyard is gravel.
  • The courtyard contains seating and a floor maze.
  • After 25 metres head down the passage on the right (photograph 3) passing Peter Lanyon West main entrance on the left (photograph 4).
  • The passageway has a slight slope.
  • There is a slight slope to exit the passageway (photograph 5) into Peter Lanyon East courtyard (photograph 6).
  • Large puddles are may form in this area when it rains.
  • After the passageway, Peter Lanyon East main entrance is to the right.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 162cm (5ft 4in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of less than 2cm.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
