  • On the harbour side of the road the path is tarmac with dropped kerbs. This side of the road is a shared surface cycleway.
  • There is a controlled crossing to the harbour side, 50m to the right of the information centre. The controlled crossing to the Liberation Monument and the North Beach Car Park is approximately 250m from the information centre.

  • Continue along the North Esplanade to the controlled crossing.

Liberation Monument

  • The monument commemorates 50 years of freedom since the island's liberation from German occupation in 1945. The monument is a sundial with an obelisk, which casts a shadow which, on the 9th of May each year, points to the inscriptions marking the events of Liberation Day. The inscriptions are carved on the curved white granite seat which forms the back of the memorial. There are steps to the seating area with level access to the right.

North Beach Car Park to Town Church via High Street

  • Cross at the controlled crossing, which has dropped kerbs and tactile paving, and turn right towards the traffic island with a flag display.
  • After 30m bear left onto Lower Pollet adjacent to the telephone box. There are no dropped kerbs in this area and the step is shallow. After 20m Lower Pollet becomes pedestrianised with access for permit holder vehicles only. The roadway slopes up steeply and the surface is cobbled; the footway is original uneven granite slabs.
  • At the junction with Smith Street and High Street the roadway drops down, still with cobbled surfaces, to the Town Church at the bottom of the hill. At the Town Church take the pathway to the left beside the telephone box. There is stepped access with a moderate ramp alongside. There are no handrails and the surface is uneven granite slabs.

At the end of the pier there is a raised viewing platform with 15+ medium height steps at each end, which looks out over the harbour and the marina. There is no lift or ramped access to this area.

Albert Pier to Guernsey Information Centre

  • From Albert Pier turn right alongside the marina wall. There are low bollards linked by a non-contrasting chain between the path and the traffic. There is no kerb between the road and the pathway. Do not attempt to cross the road until you reach the controlled crossing at Victoria Pier.
  • Having crossed the road turn right. The path narrows to 90cm wide and is raised above the road level in front of the Ship and Crown Public House. The ramps are moderate to steep and have handrails on both sides.
  • Beyond the ramped section is the courtyard to the Guernsey Information Centre. Note that the information boards have no tapping rail to assist visually impaired people and that the gaps between the boards are 60cm wide.
