  • Smith Street is situated just off the High Street in St Peter Port Guernsey and runs a loop between two section of the High Street and is close to the main harbour for ferries to the Mainland UK and France.
  • The main airport is located to the south west of St Peter Port, approximately 3.5miles away.
  • The nearest bus stop is at the Bus Station/Town Terminus, which is next to Castle Pier. This is approximately 450 metres from the High Street.
  • Taxis are available from the Town Taxi rank.
  • Smith Street is pedestrianised only.
  • The length of the route of the High Street is 124 metres in total.

Parking

  • Blue Badge Parking (2*)
  • There are several Blue Badge parking bays at the bottom of the High Street in Church Square. The parking bays are located by Mountain Warehouse and Healthspan.
  • Parking is free for Blue Badge holders displaying a valid Blue Badge.
  • Public Car Parks (1*)
  • There is a public car park on Albert Pier, about 400 metres from the High Street and its southern entrance with Fountain Street.
  • There are standard on-street parking bays available on Forest Lane at the top of Smith Street and these bays are limited to 30 minutes.

Smith Street Overview

  • Smith Street in St Peter Port Guernsey runs from the junction with The Pollet and the High Street (south) to Forest Lane (north).

Junction - Smith Street and High Street/The Pollet

  • The route starts on Smith Street where the High Street, The Pollet and Smith Street merge.
  • This area is for commercial vehicles and Blue Badge holders only.
  • Traffic will come towards you from The Pollet and both ways on Smith Street.
  • The pathways in this section are concrete and block paving.
  • The pathways are on a steep uphill slope going up Smith Street and a steep downhill slope going into the High Street and The Pollet.
  • There are no dropped kerbs at this junction, but the kerbs are very low.

High Street/The Pollet to Junction of Forest Lane and Smith Street

  • This section of the route starts by Pharmacy Locale and Lloyds Bank and ends just after the Prince of Wales Public House.
  • There is a path on both sides of the road, where traffic will come towards you.
  • This area is for commercial and Blue Badge holders only.
  • The surface of the pathways is concrete and block paving with a steep uphill slope.
  • The width of the paths in most areas is 120cm, but they narrow to 100cm in parts as you pass building.
  • The pathway can be uneven in places as you pass over raised manhole covers and loose block paving (shown in photographs 1, 3, 4 and 6).
  • The length of this section is roughly 124 metres.

Junction - Smith Street and Forest Lane

  • This is the end of Smith Street and becomes Forest Lane.
  • This area is for commercial vehicles and Blue Badge users only.
  • The surface of the pathways is concrete and block paving on a steep uphill slope, becoming easy after passing the junction.
  • There are no dropped kerbs at this junction, but the kerbs are very low.
