Getting Help and Assistance

  • Special Assistance please click here (new tab).
  • There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
  • There is not a member of staff trained in British Sign Language.
  • British Sign Language interpreters cannot be provided on request.
  • There is an assistance dog toilet or toileting area at the venue/nearby.
  • The assistance dog toilet or toileting area is located the grass verge at the end of the Departures Terminal.
  • Water bowls for assistance dogs are not available.
  • There are mobility aids available.
  • The mobility aids available include wheelchairs.
  • To obtain mobility aids please contact the Special Assistance desk in the Departures Lounge.
  • For passengers requiring Special Assistance, please let your airline know of your particular needs at least 48 hours before you travel. They will then make arrangements to ensure your requirements are met.
    If you are planning on travelling with your own electric wheelchair, please advise your airline in advance.
    Please check in at least 90 minutes before the stated time of departure.
  • For Blue Badge bay users wishing to take their Blue Badge with them when travelling abroad, contact the Customer Relations desk to obtain a temporary parking permit to display in the car.
  • For passengers with particular needs in relation to autism, dementia or other particular mental health needs, please contact the Customer Relations team by e-mail at least 48 hours before travel, specifying particular requirements. They will then endeavour to meet your needs.

Entrance (Baggage Reclaim and Customs Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located in the Arrivals Corridor.
    • The entrance area/door is clearly signed.
    • This entrance is signed with 'Customs Area'.
    • There is step-free access at this entrance.
    • The entrance door(s) does not/do not contrast visually with its immediate surroundings.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is/are double width.
    • The width of the opening is 227cm.
    • There is not a member of staff available for assistance at this entrance.
    • There is a slope with a very easy incline.

Baggage Claim

  • From the Departure Gates corridor, take the signed side corridor to Baggage Reclaim / Way Out. Pass through the automatic double doors (200cm width). After a short corridor, pass through the second set of automatic double doors (227cm width). After this, there is a slight upward slope in the corridor leading to the Baggage Reclaim area.
  • There are 3 baggage carousels.
  • The baggage carousels are not clearly signed.
  • The type of flooring in this area is tiles.
  • There is some flooring which is shiny and could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • The lighting levels are moderate to good.
  • There is seating available in the baggage claim area.
  • There are seats with armrests on both sides.
  • There is a member of staff available to assist with retrieving baggage from the carousels.

Counter (Baggage Enquiries Desk)

  • Counter View
    • The counter is located to the rights as you enter the Baggage Reclaim hall.
    • The counter is approximately 55m (60yd 5in) from the Baggage Reclaim and Customs entrance.
    • The counter is clearly visible from the entrance.
    • There is step-free access to the counter.
    • There is a clear unobstructed route to the counter.
    • There are no windows, TVs, glazed screens or mirrors behind the counter which could adversely affect the ability of someone to lip read.
    • The counter is placed in front of a plain background.
    • The lighting levels at the counter are good.
    • The height of the counter is 100cm.
    • There is sufficient space to write or sign documents on the counter.
    • There is not a lowered section of the counter.
    • The counter is staffed.
    • There is not a hearing assistance system at the counter.
    • Signs and universally accepted symbols or pictograms, indicating lifts, stairs, WCs, circulation routes and other parts of the building are provided near the counter.

  • Seating Area View

Route from Baggage Reclaim to Arrivals Terminal

  • From Baggage Reclaim, continue past the Baggage Enquiries Desk to the Customs Area.
  • To exit to the Arrivals Terminal turn right and follow the 'Way Out' signs.
  • Exit by one of the two no-return exit doors.
  • There is a room to the left for Customs Search.
  • Access into the area is via double doors that open away from you (push) and are 174cm in width.
  • This room is only used when directed by customs staff.

Exit (Non-Return Door)
