Introduction
- The following information describes the route from Trinity Square halls of residence to Sport Central.
- The approximate distance of this route is 2.1km.
- The route takes approximately 17-22 minutes.
- The route leads along Gateshead High Street, across Lambton Road, along Nelson Street, across the A184, under the railway viaduct and onto Hills Street.
- The route then uses public transport to John Dobson Street.
- The route then leads across John Dobson Street and along Northumberland Road to Sport Central.
- The majority of paths along the route are tarmac with some easy and moderate gradients in places.
- There is no street signage located along the route directing you to the University Campus.
- Once on the University Campus, there is street signage located along the route directing you to Sport Central.
- There is campus parking next to Sport Central.
- The potential hazards on this route include; busy roads, crossing points and shared pathways.
- The visual indicators at the crossing points are activated by push buttons. These are between the heights of 95cm and 115cm.
Trinity Square
- There is step free access via lift, leading from the halls of residence to the main entrance.
- Accessible toilets are available in A-B-C Block.
- There is step free access when exiting the halls of residence.
- Car parking facilities are available for residents at Trinity Square.

Trinity Square Student Accommodation to Nelson Street
- As you exit the main entrance of Trinity Square turn left onto Gateshead High Street.
- Continue along Gateshead High Street for approximately 50m to the pedestrian crossing.
- Gateshead High Street is on a moderate gradient downhill.
- The surface along the footpath is uneven paving slabs.
- The crossing point consists of three road crossings.
- At the first crossing point traffic is coming from your right.
- At the second crossing point traffic is coming from your right.
- At the third crossing point traffic is coming from your left.
- The second crossing point is to the left after the first crossing point and crosses Lambton Street.
Nelson Street to Hills Street Bus Stop
- After completing the third crossing turn right and follow Nelson Street for approximately 115m.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving at each crossing point.
- The surface of each crossing point is concrete tiles.
- Each crossing point is controlled by a visual indicator.
- The visual indicators are activated by push buttons.
- The height of the push buttons is 99cm.
- There is step free access throughout this part of the route.
- The surface of the path along the first 77m of Nelson Street is tarmac.
- After 77m the path divides.
- Continue along the right hand fork of the path.
- The surface of the path becomes paving slabs.
- Nelson Street is on an easy downhill gradient.
- There is a handrail on the right going down the gradient once the path become paving slabs.
- There are some uneven surfaces along Nelson Street caused by manhole covers.

- After approximately 115m Nelson Street crosses the A184.

- After crossing the A184 take the viaduct arch to the left and cross under the railway line.
- Continue along the path for approximately 63m to Half Moon Lane.

- The path is on an easy uphill gradient.
- The path between the A184 and Half Moon Lane is shared with cyclists.
- At Half Moon Lane turn left and follow the road onto Hills Street.
- Cross over Hills Street.

- There are no pedestrian crossing signals at this crossing point.
- Caution is advised when crossing because of traffic.
- The traffic is moving from both directions.
- Turn left and cross a short cobbled section of Half Moon Lane to reach the bus stop on the corner of Hills Street and Half Moon Lane.
- At the bus stop, take either the Citylink 57 or Blue Arrow 11X to John Dobson Street.
John Dobson Street to Sport Central
- As you exit the bus on John Dobson Street turn to the right.
- Follow John Dobson Street.
- After approximately 25m, John Dobson Street crosses Northumberland Road.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving at this crossing point.
- There are no pedestrian crossing signals at this crossing point.
- Caution is advised when crossing because of traffic.
- The traffic is coming from your right.
- After approximately 5m there is a pedestrian crossing to your right.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving at this crossing point.
- The traffic is moving from both directions.
- The surface of the crossing point is concrete tiles.
- The crossing point is controlled by a visual indicator.
- The visual indicators are activated by push buttons.
- There is step free access throughout this part of the route.
- The surface of the path along John Dobson Street is paving slabs.
- Immediately after the crossing point there is an additional crossing point.
- This crossing point is a zebra crossing.

Sport Central
- There is step free access into Sport Central.
- Accessible toilets are available throughout Sport Central.
