Coventry Railway Station

  • Coventry Railway Station is the main railway station serving the city of Coventry in the West Midlands, England. It is situated about 228 metres to the south of junction 6 of the inner ring road. The station is on West Coast Mainline (WCML) route between London and Glasgow, operated by Virgin West Coast and is at the centre of a junction where the lines to Nuneaton and to Leamington converge.
  • Coventry station has regular services between London Euston and Birmingham New Street on the WCML. Other services are extended to/from Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Preston, Glasgow and Edinburgh Waverley. There are also long distance Cross-country services to Manchester to the north, and Oxford and Bournemouth to the south. Local services also operate between Coventry-Nuneaton, Northampton and Leamington Spa.

  • There are four platforms available with step free access via lifts to all platforms.
  • The station has the PlusBus scheme where train and bus tickets can be bought together at a saving.
  • There are several bus stops available outside the railway station with services to Coventry City Centre & Bus Station, Leamington Spa and various other local services. These services are provided by National Express Coventry and some other local bus companies.

  • There is also a taxi rank available directly opposite the railway station entrance.
  • There is step free automatic double doors to enter the railway station.

Coventry Railway Station Exit to Park Road

  • There are automatic double sliding doors to exit the railway station onto Station Square as shown in photograph 1.
  • As you exit through the doors from the station, the pathway is level and is block paving.
  • After 7 metres you will approach a crossing with tactile paving on both sides and traffic coming from your right only, as shown in photographs 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • The paving changes to tarmac briefly as you cross the road and converts to concrete paving as you reach the other side.
  • Continue straight ahead for 15 metres on a level concrete ground until you reach Park Road.
  • The length covered in this section is about 35 metres.

Station Square to A405 Slip Road

  • Cross over the road in front of you to exit Station Square before heading along the unnamed road.
  • The road has tactile drop kerbs on either side and a tarmac surface.
  • Traffic approaches the road from either direction. This can be seen in photographs 1 and 2.
  • There are bollards on the far side of the road with widths greater 150cm between them. These can be seen in photograph 2.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving, with the occasional manhole cover and tree. As shown in photographs 3 and 4.
  • There is a slight downhill gradient followed by a slight uphill gradient.
  • The distance covered is approximately 115m.

A405 Slip Road to Warwick Road

  • Cross the A405 Slip Road and continue until you reach Warwick Road.
  • There are tactile drop kerbs on either side of the tarmac road.
  • Traffic only approaches from the right.
  • There are bollards on either side of the road with a width of 130cm.
  • The road and bollards can be seen in photographs 1 and 2.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving, with the occasional manhole cover and tree alongside strips of tactile metal. As shown in photographs 3 and 4.
  • As you continue, you will be presented with two paths. Take the one to your right. This is shown in photographs 5 and 6.
  • There is a downhill gradient as you continue.
  • Keep going until you reach Warwick Road which to access you will need to pass through a pair of bollards with a width of 100cm. This is shown in photograph 7.
  • The distance covered is approximately 125m.

Warwick Road to New Union Street

  • Continue Down Warwick Road until you reach New Union Street.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover and downhill gradients towards the road and as you along Warwick Road.
  • There are a series of three tarmac service roads along Warwick Road. The first of which can be seen in photograph 1, with road 2 and 3 shown in photographs 3 and 4.
  • Between the first and second of these service roads is a set of bollards with a width of over 150cm between then. These can be seen in photograph 2.
  • There is 5m after the third service road is a tactile drop kerb for a crossing. Ignore this and keep going until you reach New Union Street. The tactile paving can be seen in photograph 5.
  • Towards the end of Warwick Road the surface changes from block paved to tarmac. As shown in photographs 6, 7 and 8.
  • There is a distance of 200m covered in this section.

New Union Street to Portal House

  • At the end of Warwick Road turn right for to reach Portal House.
  • As you turn right there is a section of tactile block paving leading to a pedestrian crossing across Warwick Road. Ignore this and head down New Union Street. This crossing is shown in photograph 1.
  • The surface of the pavement is concrete with the occasional manhole cover until you reach the area just in front of Portal House when it becomes uneven block paving with the occasional manhole cover. See photographs 2, 3 and 4.
  • The area in front of the Portal House is cloistered and has a slight uphill gradient and a gradient going downhill towards the road. .
  • As you proceed you will find the entrance to Portal House on your right. This can be seen in photograph 5.
  • The distance of this section is approximately 45m.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building, off New Union Street.
    • There is ramped/sloped access at this entrance.

    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.

    • The width of the door opening is 95cm (3ft 1in).

    • The ramp/slope is located in front of the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is not a level landing at the top of the ramp.
