Introduction

  • Royal William Yard is the largest collection of Grade 1 listed military buildings in Europe. Within The Yard area are businesses, retailers and residential accommodation.
  • Many of the roadways and footways connecting the buildings are cobbled. A parking fee is applicable as soon as you enter the site, even to drop off visitors, and parking must be paid for by all, including Blue Badge holders.
  • There are restaurants, shops, galleries and offices in The Yard and occasional events, such as open air theatre or films.
  • Throughout the site there are clear maps to direct around The Yard as shown in the photograph.

  • There is a bus stop within 150m (164yds) of the venue.
  • The nearest National Rail station is Plymouth.

Getting Around

  • There are numerous benches and seats without armrests in various places around The Yard (photographs 1-3).
  • There are speed restriction humps on all the roadways and alongside the walkways are low-level stone warning signs. These signs are 40cm high and are placed near the roadway edge (photographs 4-6).
  • To the left as you enter the site is the access onto the South West Coast Path. Visitors can climb the steep path along the headland and at the point take the long staircase down to the Yard waterside (photographs 7 and 8).
