Route Information
- The following information describes the route from Rotherham Interchange to Riverside Library.
- The route is approximately 0.5 miles.
- The route takes approximately 10 minutes.
- The route leads along Frederick Street, Bridge Street, Central Road, Riverside Path, The Statutes and Main Street.
- The route is mainly block paved.
- There is some street signage along this route.
- The potential hazards along this route include crossings, narrow pathways and slopes.
Starting Point - Rotherham Interchange
- Accessible toilets are available within the interchange.
- There is step free access along the interchange platforms.
- There is step free access when exiting the interchange.
- Car parking facilities are available with level access via a lift to the interchange.

Interchange Pedestrian Zebra Crossing
- After leaving the Interchange via the West Entrance (A1 and B1) you will need to cross over the pedestrian zebra crossing.
- The crossing is level.
- Traffic approaches from the right.
- You will then need to turn left, and cross over Frederick Street.
Frederick Street Crossing
- There are two crossings here.
- Traffic approaches from the right first.
- You will arrive at a traffic island.
- After the traffic island, traffic approaches from the left.
- This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs.
- There is no audible indicator for this crossing but there are visual indicators.
- The height of the push button for the crossing is 108cm.
- There is a cone at 100cm high on the underside of the controls to indicate when it is safe to cross.
- After crossing Frederick Street there is another crossing to the right to cross Bridgegate.
Bridgegate Crossing
- The crossing has no markings or signals.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving.
- The traffic approaches from the left and right.
- Once across the road follow the path approximately 10 metres to the next crossing.
Corporation Street Crossing
- There are two pedestrian crossings along this section of the route.
- The first crossing is over a bus lane with traffic approaching from the left and right.
- There is no audible indicator for this crossing but there are visual indicators.
- The height of the button is 117cm.
- There is a cone on the underside of the controls to indicate when it is safe to cross. The cone is 111cm high.
- The crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving.
- The second crossing is the same as the first.
- The traffic at this crossing approaches from the left.
- Once across the second crossing follow the pavement along Chantry Bridge.
Chantry Bridge to Works Entrance
- After crossing Corporation Street continue along Chantry Bridge to the crossing at the works entrance.
- The pavement is mainly block paving.
- There is a moderate gradient along the path.
Crossing Works Entrance
- There is a crossing point at the current works entrance.
- There are drop kerbs and tactile paving.
- Traffic approaches from the left and right.
Crossing Works Entrance to Central Road
- After crossing the road at the works entrance continue ahead along Chantry Bridge.
- The pavement is mainly block paving.
- There is a moderate gradient along the path.
- The pavement is wide but narrows over the bridge.
- The width of the narrowest section is 150cm.
- Once over the bridge you will see Rotherham Central Station ahead of you.
Central Road to Riverside Path
- When you arrive at Rotherham Central Station turn left onto Central Road.
- The path here is block paved.
- There are bollards on the roadside of the path causing the pavement to narrow to 135cm.
- There is a moderate downhill gradient here.
- Follow the pathway along towards Riverside path.
- After approximately 50 metres there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving.
- This crossing is not over a road but is over a turning space.
- Continue along the path.
- At the end of this path there is a dropped kerb leading to some bollards.
- Pass through the bollards and you will be on Riverside Path.
Central Road Crossing to Turning Space Crossing
- After the Crossing turn right onto Central Road and follow the path ahead.
- The path narrows to 135cm due to bollards and railings.
- The path has an easy slope.
- The slope is approximately 45m long.
- Half way down the road there is a crossing.
Turning Space Crossing
- The crossing is on Central Road.
- The crossing has tactile paving.
- The crossing does not cross a road, it is a turning space.
- Traffic will approach from the right.
Turning Space Crossing to Riverside Path
- Continue along Central Road.
- After approximately 30m you will come to a wall with some bollards.
- There is a dropped kerb leading around the wall.
- After passing the bollards you will be on Riverside Path.
Riverside Path to The Statutes
- The pavement along Riverside Path is block paving.
- There is a moderate upward slope.
- There are resting places along this part of the route.
- The slope is approximately 20m and then levels out as you pass the courthouse.
- After the courthouse there is a downward slope that is approximately 10m before it levels out again.
- The path then forks.
- Take the right hand fork.
- There is an easy slope approximately 15m long.
- This leads to The Statutes.
The Statutes to Main Street
- The path on The Statues is block paved.
- The pavement is 150cm wide.
- There is an easy slope all the way along.
- The pavement leads past an entrance to a car park on the left and the Police Station on the right.
Car Park Entrance Crossing
- On the road leading from the Statute to Main Street there is an entrance to the Police Car Park.
- Traffic approaches from both directions.
- There is a dropped kerb but no tactile paving.
Crossing Main Street to Riverside Library
- At the end of The Statutes there is a pedestrian crossing leading across Main Street.
- There are dropped kerbs with tactile markings on both sides of the crossing.
- Traffic approaches from both directions.
- Once over this crossing you are at Riverside Library.
