Solent University Car Park to Old Northam Road

  • Exit the car park onto Old Northam Road.
  • The path surface when exiting the car park consists of tarmac and block paving.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient between the car park and Old Northam Road.

Old Northam Road to Northam Road Crossing

  • Having reached Old Northam Road, bear left and continue ahead towards the Northam Road crossing.
  • This section of the route is mostly level.

  • The path narrows in places due to road signs and bollards lining the route.

Northam Road Crossing

Northam Road Crossing to the Railway Overpass/Footbridge

  • Continue ahead along Northam Road for approximately 170 metres, towards the railway overpass/footbridge.

  • Following this, the path bears back to the left and up a slight slope for approximately 50 metres.
  • This slope leads up to the railway overpass/footbridge.
  • The railway overpass/footbridge is located on the right hand side of the path.
  • Keep to the right on this section of the route as there is a steep slope.

Overpass/Footbridge to the Outer Concourse - Step-Free Access

  • Once on the railway overpass/footbridge, continue ahead for approximately 60 metres.
  • You will then reach a ramp leading down to the outer concourse, via Melbourne Street.
  • The railway overpass /footbridge has a tarmac surface and is mostly level.
  • The ramp has a long, slight, downwards gradient.
  • The ramp has 2 level landings available.
  • Having reached the bottom of the ramp, bear right.
  • Continue ahead across the car park for approximately 40 metres towards the outer concourse.
  • The path along this section of the route is mostly level.
  • The path surface consists of tarmac.

Overpass/Footbridge to the Outer Concourse - Stepped Access

  • Once on the railway overpass/footbridge, continue ahead for approximately 60 metres.
  • You will then reach the steps leading down to the outer concourse, via Melbourne Street.
  • The railway overpass /footbridge has a tarmac surface and is mostly level.
  • There are 15+ clearly marked steps with handrails on both sides leading down to Melbourne Street.
  • The steps are at a height of 15cm.
  • There are 2 level landings available on the staircase.
  • Having reached the bottom of the steps, continue ahead along Melbourne Street.
  • After approximately 100 metres (bearing left onto the path after 70 metres) you will reach the outer concourse.
  • The path along this section of the route is mostly level.
  • The path surface consists of tarmac and block paving.
