Departure Lounge

Transit Trains

  • The Transit Trains are accessed at the rear of the departure lounge.
  • The Transit Trains are used to access Departures (Gates 1-19 and Gates 20-39)
  • The Transit Trains are also used to get from Arrivals (Gates 1-19 and Gates 20-39) to Immigration.
  • There is step free access onto the Transit Trains.
  • The doors onto the trains are automatic and 210cm wide.
  • There is fixed seating available at either end of the train which have priority for passengers with mobility issues.
  • There are supports poles for passengers who are standing.

Access to Gates

  • Gates 1 - 19 are accessed from the transit - Stop 1.
  • The departure gates are accessed by either escalators of lifts.
  • There is level access from the transit to the escalators and lifts.
  • If you require assistance from the gate to the plane this can be booked in advanced with ISS.
  • A member of staff will escort you to the plane using a step free route.

Escalator(s) (Transit - Departure Gates 1-19)

Lift (Transit - Departure Gates 1-19)

  • There are separate entry and exit doors in the lift.

    • The accessibility of the individual aircraft varies depending on the provider. Please contact your airline company prior to booking for more information.
    • Passengers who require assistance to access the aircraft via steps are escorted to the apron by a member of staff via a lift and accessible transport. Access from the Departure Gates desks to the apron is via either an escalator or 15+ steps with handrails on both sides and a landing. From the boarding bridge, there are a further 15+ medium then deep, marked steps, with handrails both sides, leading down to the apron. At the bottom of the steps there are double doors, the doors are 220cm wide. Just beyond the doors there are 4 steps.

Eating and Drinking (Coffee House and WHSmith)

Accessible Mini Bus and Ambulift

  • Stansted Airport provide a range of accessible transport, including mini buses and Ambulift vehicles.
  • An Ambulift is used to board and disembark passengers who need full assistance.
  • The Ambulift can be used to collect passengers from the Departure Gate Piers or drop off at the arrivals entrance.
  • Mini buses can used to transport passengers with mobility restrictions from the Departure Gate piers to aircraft or from the aircraft to the arrivals entrance.
  • Passengers using the mini bus can board or disembark the aircraft using the Ambulift or the aircraft steps.
