Route Information

  • This route goes from Vale Castle to the Memorial Mast Roundabout in St Peter Port.
  • The majority of the route is on surfaced paths.
  • The route will take approximately 1.5 hours.
  • This route is not a loop so you may need to retrace the route to return to the car parking at Vale Castle.
  • There is car parking available at Vale Castle and along the esplanades in St Peter Port. These can be used as pickup and drop off points.
  • Alternatively there are bus stops along St Sampson harbour, along the route from Le Bas Courtil to Glategny Esplanade.
  • There are a number of additional car parks located along the route, which can be used to make the walk more manageable for people with limited mobility.
  • There are public toilets located at Vale Castle, St Sampson harbour, and at the Memorial Mast Roundabout. These may only be open during peak season.

Vale Castle to St Sampson Clock Tower

  • This section of the walk is approximately 1.1km.
  • The walk begins at Vale Castle.
  • The route begins between two car parks.
  • The route is compact gravel.
  • There are easy slopes on this section of the route.
  • The path leads to a small car park.
  • The surface of the car park is loose chippings.
  • At the car park cross the road to join the footpath.
  • There is not a designated crossing point.
  • The road is busy.
  • The surface of the footpath is tarmac.
  • After 214m cross the road back to the coast side, just beyond the harbour pier arm.
  • Follow the footpath beside the road, continuing from Castle Road to North Quay.
  • Continue along the north wall of St Sampson's harbour, past some additional parking.
  • There are public toilets along North Quay (may have seasonal openings).
  • Continue along North Quay to the mini-roundabout.
  • At the roundabout follow the footpath and road to the left, onto The Bridge.
  • Follow the footpath and road around The Bridge and continue to the left towards St Sampson Clock Tower.

St Sampson Clock Tower to Le Mont Crevelt Tower

  • This section of the walk is approximately 392m.
  • There is on-street parking along South Quay.
  • The route follows the footpath along the road.
  • This section of the route is level.
  • At St Sampson Clock Tower cross over the road.
  • There is a designated crossing point.
  • Follow the road, crossing over Church Road.
  • There is not a designated crossing point.
  • Church Road is quiet, but the route crosses at a wide area of the road.
  • Continue along the footpath beside the main road until you turn a right angle corner.
  • Cross the road along this section of the road.
  • The road is busy.
  • There is not a designated crossing point.
  • Le Mont Crevelt Tower is on the left, overlooking the sea.

Le Mont Crevelt Tower to Belle Greve Bay

  • This section of the walk is approximately 2.1km.
  • The route follows the footpath along the side of the road.
  • The majority of the route is level.
  • The surface of the footpath is tarmac.
  • The path becomes very narrow for approximately 5m at the start of this section of the route.
  • Follow the footpath along to a crossroads with a pedestrian crossing.
  • There is a dropped kerb at the crossing.
  • The dropped kerb has tactile paving.
  • Continue along the footpath.
  • There is car parking along Bulwer Avenue.
  • The surface of the car park is loose chippings.
  • Continue along the footpath between the car park and the road.
  • Continue along the footpath beside the road.
  • The route overlooks the bay and runs beside Les Bas Courtils.
  • Continue along the footpath beside as the road becomes Les Banques.
  • The route continues along the coast.
  • The footpath is split for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • There are additional small car parks along Les Bas Courtils and Les Banques.
  • The surface of the additional parking is tarmac.
  • Continue along Les Banques beyond the mini roundabout at Grand Bouet.
  • There is a raised viewing point on the left, as you approach the end of this section.
  • The viewing point is accessed by 18 medium height steps without handrails.
  • This section ends just beyond the raised viewing point and gives views across the Belle Greve Bay to Herm and Little Herm.
