  • Commercial Road (A13) Whitechapel is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and is close to Aldgate East Tube Station at the west side of the route.
    The route is approximately 0.6 miles (965m) in length and would take 13-16 minutes to walk.

  • Commercial Road (A13) is approximately 0.1 miles (161m) away from Whitechapel High Street (A11) with direct access to the city, Stratford and the M25/M11.
  • This route guide runs between Whitechapel High Street (A11) at the west, to Watney Market at the east.

  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and standard parking available in Commercial Road and surrounding side streets.
  • The closest public car park available is an NCP London Whitechapel High Street at Spreadeagle Yard, approximately 120m away from the western side of the route where Commercial Road (A13) and Whitechapel High Street (A11) meet.

  • There is limited on street Blue Badge and on street standard parking bays in Commercial Road (A13) and some surrounding side roads.
  • A lot of Commercial Road is on a red route with very limited areas to park.
  • Standard parking is only available between 19.00 and 07.00 Monday to Friday and all weekend.
  • This parking has a time limit of 1 hour and no return within 2 hours.
  • Blue Badge holders can park in any parking bay for 3 hours with no return within 2 hours.

Whitechapel High Street (A11) to Goodman Stile via Commercial Road (A13)

  • There are some uneven sections throughout.
  • The pathways do narrow as they run past pedestrian crossings, bus stops and bins.
  • Pathways are mainly level with some easy slopes uphill leading away from Whitechapel High Street (A11) into Commercial Road (A13).
  • There is a pedestrian crossing to cross Commercial Road outside Central House and District Court close to the junction with Whitechapel High Street (A11).
  • The pedestrian crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides, with a small island in the middle.
  • The pedestrian crossing uses buttons, symbols, lights and sounds to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely.

  • There are some roads and entrances to cross along the section, with most of these having tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.

Junction - Goodman Stile, White Church Lane and Commercial Road (A13)

  • There are three crossing points at this junction for pedestrians to cross Commercial Road (A13), White Church Lane and Goodman Stile.
  • Two are pedestrian crossings which cross Commercial Road (A13) and Goodman Stile.
  • The pedestrian crossings have dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides, with a small island in the middle.
  • These pedestrian crossings use buttons, symbols, lights and sounds to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely.
  • Both crossings have easy downhill slopes leading from Commercial Road towards Goodman Stile.
  • Both crossings have two-way traffic.

  • The pathways are mainly level with some easy slopes uphill along Commercial Road (A13) leading from Goodman Stile towards Greenfield Road.
  • There is a pedestrian crossing to cross Commercial Road outside the Skyline Plaza building and the old London Metropolitan University.
  • The pedestrian crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides, with a small island in the middle.
  • The pedestrian crossing uses buttons, symbols, lights and sounds to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely.

Junction - New Road (B108), Cannon Street (B108) and Commercial Road (A13)

Watney Market Shopping Centre

  • Watney Market Shopping Centre leads off from Commercial Road (A13) and is next to the Idea Store.
  • This area is a parade of shops on the left and right, with market stalls in the centre.
  • This is a pedestrian area, is block paving throughout and level with some uneven sections.
  • There is often various market stall related products protruding out into some of the walkways.
  • The area can be very busy at certain times of the day, such as lunchtimes and Saturdays.
