Access Guide
COVID-19 Information
- The information in this section was taken in January 2021.
- Most University food outlets are now shut in line with government guidance.
- Opening times of areas are under constant review given the number of people on campus and government guidance.
- External queuing systems are located outside the Fresh Shop and Student Services.
- All buildings have entrances and exits via separate doors to assist with social distancing.
- Hand sanitising stations are at the entrance to all buildings and in each room used for study spaces.
- There is a limited number of people allowed inside.
- The number of people permitted in each room is signed on the door to that space.
- Clearly signed one way systems have been set up both internally and externally around the campus.
- There should be no more than one person in the lift at any time.
- Floor markings and wall signs have been installed to remind people to keep 2m apart.
- Protective screens have been installed across the university.
- Some urinals and cubicles in toilets have been closed to assist with social distancing.
- All showers are available, but the number of people permitted in them is indicated by a sign on the door.
- All staff, students and visitors are expected to wear face masks when inside buildings, unless they are in a single office.

Polden Court to the Access Road Crossing
- The surface of the area outside of Polden Court blocks 1 and 2 is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- There is a ramp located on an access path at the side of Polden Court leading to the crossing.
- The ramp is moderate.
- At the top of the ramp continue approximately 10m before turning left and then right towards the crossing.
Access Road Crossing
- The access road crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- Turn right onto the access path.
Access Road Crossing to the Service Road Crossing
- The surface of the access path leading from the access road crossing to the service road crossing is smooth tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- Continue straight along this path, after approximately 80m there is a service road crossing.
Service Road Crossing
- The crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
- It is uneven in places.
- At the far side of the crossing the tactile paving is on a moderate slope.
- The West Accommodation Centre is located on the left at the far side of the crossing.
Service Road Crossing to the Second Access Road Crossing
- The surface of the path leading from the service road crossing to the second access road crossing is flag stones.
- It is uneven in places.
- Continue straight along this path for approximately 25m before turning right towards the crossing.
Second Access Road Crossing
- The designated crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
- The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
Second Access Road Crossing to Wessex House
- There is a path leading from the second access road crossing to Wessex House.
- On the path there are two fixed gates 2m from the second access road crossing.
- The surface of the pathway is flag stones.
- It is uneven in places.
- Follow the pathway for approximately 75m before turning left through the automatic doors into Wessex House.
Wessex House to the Parade
- The surface of the corridor in Wessex House is a synthetic non slip flooring.
- On entering the double automatic doors turn right and after approximately 18m turn left towards the opening onto The Parade.
- Banking facilities are located within this corridor.
The Parade to the Library
- The surface of the walkway on the Parade is made up of large flag stones which are uneven in places.
- There is an easy slope on the parade leading to the library.
- Continue straight down the parade passing the writing centre on your left.
- The library is approximately 120m along the parade and located to the left.
Outside Access (Main Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
- There is level access into the venue.
- The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
- The door(s) is / are double.
- The width of the door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in).

- The door(s) is / are double.
- The width of the door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in).
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
