Access Guide
COVID-19 Information
- The information in this section was taken in January 2021.
- Most University food outlets are now shut in line with government guidance.
- Opening times of areas are under constant review given the number of people on campus and government guidance.
- External queuing systems are located outside the Fresh Shop and Student Services.
- All buildings have entrances and exits via separate doors to assist with social distancing.
- Hand sanitising stations are at the entrance to all buildings and in each room used for study spaces.
- There is a limited number of people allowed inside.
- The number of people permitted in each room is signed on the door to that space.
- Clearly signed one way systems have been set up both internally and externally around the campus.
- There should be no more than one person in the lift at any time.
- Floor markings and wall signs have been installed to remind people to keep 2m apart.
- Protective screens have been installed across the university.
- Some urinals and cubicles in toilets have been closed to assist with social distancing.
- All showers are available, but the number of people permitted in them is indicated by a sign on the door.
- All staff, students and visitors are expected to wear face masks when inside buildings, unless they are in a single office.

8 West Building Car Park
- The building does have its own car park.
- Parking is not free for all users.
- Parking is free for Blue Badge holders.
- The car park is at the front of the venue.
- The car park type is open air/surface.
- Parking spaces for Blue Badge holders do not need to be booked in advance.
- There are 3 designated parking bay(s) within the car park.
- The dimensions of the designated parking bay(s) are 480cm x 550cm (15ft 9in x 18ft 1in).

8 West Building Car Park to 8 West Building Main Entrance
- There is an easy slope leading from the top of the dropped kerb at the car park to the main entrance.

- The slope surface is made up of large flag stones and is uneven in places.
8 West Building Main Entrance
- The main doors open automatically (towards you).
- The automatic doors are push pad activated.
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 140cm (4ft 7in) wide.
- Second set of doors
- There is a second set of doors.
- The doors open automatically (towards you).
- The doors are double width.
- The door opening is 160cm (5ft 3in) wide.
- The staircase to all other floors is located between the 1st and second set of doors.
8 West Building Red Route Ramp
- The red route ramp is located next to the 8 West building main entrance.
- The surface of the ramp is smooth concrete which is uneven in places.
- There is a small lip onto the ramp where the ramp joins the block paving
- Level landings are in place along the ramp.
- The 8 West lecture theatres are located on the left of the ramp.
- There is an accessible toilet located on a level landing of the ramp, to the right.
- The ramp is approximately 75m long.
Accessible Toilet (Red Route Accessible Toilet)
- Accessible toilet facilities are available.

- There is tactile, Braille and pictorial signage on or near the toilet door.
- This accessible toilet is approximately 35m (38yd 10in) from the 8 West building main entrance.

- As you turn onto the walkway there is a metallic, slightly uneven, dimpled strip before the surface becomes large flag stones.
- Continue approximately 35m to the entrance into Wessex House.
- The entrance into Wessex House consists of manual, double width, heavy doors which open towards you.
Wessex House to The Parade
- Continue ahead when entering the Wessex House entrance.
- The surface of the path through Wessex House is smooth tiles. There are small areas of concrete among the tiles.
- There is level access within Wessex House.
- Continue ahead for approximately 15m.
- The exit onto The Parade has no doors.
The Parade to the Library
- When entering the parade continue ahead for approximately 140m.
- The surface of the walkway is made up of large flag stones which are uneven in places.
- The library is located on the left.
Outside Access (Main Entrance)
- This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
- There is level access into the venue.
- The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
- The door(s) is / are double.
- The width of the door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in).

- The door(s) is / are double.
- The width of the door opening is 190cm (6ft 3in).
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
