Route Summary

Eastwood Academic Buildings

  • On exiting the Eastwood Academic buildings follow the path approximately 13m and turn right.
  • The surface of the path is concrete and is uneven in places. The path is situated on an easy gradient.
  • At the bottom of the path to the right there are 2 blue badge parking bays located outside the Eastwood Academic buildings the path to the left leads toward the centre of the campus.

Eastwood Academic Buildings to the Designated Access Road Crossing

  • When exiting the Eastwood Academic buildings continue along the path.
  • The surface of the path has alternating areas of concrete and block paving before becoming block paving.
  • There are lips on each side of the path.
  • The path is on a easy slope.
  • After approximately 70m turn left.
  • At this point the gradient of the path varies from easy to moderate.
  • At the base of the slope there is an area of very uneven concrete, there is a smoother surface to the right of this area.
  • There are 3 wooden removable bollards located at this point. When removed the base of the bollard fixings are uneven.
  • After a further 5m use the designated access road crossing.

Designated Access Road Crossing

  • The designated access road crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • After crossing the access road turn right.

Designated Access Road Crossing to the Bale Haus Crossing

  • There is a path leading from the designated access road crossing to the Bale Haus crossing.
  • The surface of the path is smooth tarmac.
  • There are various easy slopes along the path.
  • There is a drop off point to the right of the path.
  • There is tactile paving along the drop off point.
  • After approximately 8m turn left.
  • 20m away is the Balehaus crossing which is accessible via easy slopes.
  • Balehaus is on the left of the path.

Bale Haus Crossing

  • The Bale Haus crossing has dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
  • The surface of the crossing is tarmac.
  • It is uneven in places.
  • After crossing turn right.

Bale Haus Crossing to the Convocation Avenue Crossing

  • There is a path leading from the Bale Haus crossing to the Convocation Avenue crossing.
  • The surface of the path is concrete at first before becoming block paving which is uneven in places.
  • After approximately 18m follow the path around to the left.
  • As you turn left the surface changes to tarmacked shingle.
  • There are 4 removable bollards located at this point. When removed the base of the bollard fixings are uneven.
  • Continue along the path passing the chancellors' building on the right.
  • Outside the chancellors building the surface of the path is block paving before becoming tarmac.
  • At the end of the Chancellor's buildings there are a further 4 removable bollards located at this point. When removed the base of the bollard fixings are uneven.
  • After approximately 65m turn left.
  • The path then changes from sloping upwards to sloping downwards towards the Convocation Avenue crossing.

Convocation Avenue Crossing

  • The Convocation Avenue crossing is raised to provide level access either side of the crossing.
  • There is tactile paving at both sides of the road.
  • There are easy slopes on either side of the crossing.
  • Turn right at the far side of the crossing.

Convocation Avenue Crossing to the Service Road

  • The university bus stop is located in front you.
  • Turn right onto the service road pathway.
  • There is a path which runs alongside the service road, leading to the lift.
  • There are easy slopes and uneven surfaces located along the path.
  • The surface of the service road path is block paving. The surface becomes concrete with areas of block paving as you approach the lift.

Lift (Service Road Lift to The Parade)

  • There is a lift for public use.
  • The lift is located at the end of the service road path.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are 1-2.
  • Wall mounted information boards are provided at lift landings.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The clear door width is 90cm (2ft 11in).
  • The dimensions of the lift are 100cm x 140cm (3ft 3in x 4ft 7in).
  • There are separate entry and exit doors in the lift.
  • There is not a mirror to aid reversing out of the lift.
  • The lift does have a visual floor indicator.
  • The lift does have an audible announcer.
  • The lift does not have a hearing loop system.
  • The lift does not have Braille markings.
  • The lift does have tactile markings.
  • The controls for the lift are within 90cm - 120cm from the floor.
  • The lighting level in the lift is medium.

    • The lift is approximately 95m from the university bus stop.
    • There is an intercom and CCTV system in operation to use this lift.
    • The person using the lift will need to push the intercom button (which will connect to the main security desk). Security will then grant the user permission to use the lift.
    • The surface of the walkway as you exit the lift is tarmac. This becomes block paving as you continue ahead.

The Parade to the Library

  • On exiting the service road lift continue straight ahead.
  • The Student Union is located to the right.
  • The surface of the walkway is made up of large flag stones which are uneven in places.
  • On the other side of the underpass there is an easy slope that leads down towards the library.
  • The library is located to the right.
  • The library is approximately 100m from the service road lift.
