Outside Access (Main Entrance)

    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located to the left and to the right, as you face the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.

Senate House to Bolton One

  • Exit the main reception and follow the slope 10m directly in front of the building leading around the statue.
  • The slope has a brick block and an easy gradient down towards Bolton One.
  • Follow the slope round to first exit on left and head across the front of the Bolton One Building.
  • The path continues on a very slight decline.
  • At the Bolton One entrance the path levels out and the surface changes to stone slabs.

From the Front of Bolton One to the Rear of Bolton One

  • Pass the Sport and Health entrance to the Bolton One Building, shown in photograph 1.
  • Turn left and follow the pavement around the corner of the Bolton One Building.
  • The path has a brick block surface with medium gradient sloping towards the building.
  • 15m down pavement is a dropped kerb into the carpark, there are 2 more similar dropped kerbs at 15m intervals, shown in photograph 4.
  • Continue past the Bolton One NHS hospital entrance, this area can be crowded with people at certain times.
  • Follow the pavement around the corner to the left.
  • There are stone blocks at irregular intervals for bench seating, shown in photographs 6 and 7.
  • Once round the corner follow the tarmac footpath shown in photograph 8.

From The Rear Of Bolton One To The Traffic Lights Along Deane Road

  • Continue down Deane Road on the tarmac surfaced pavement.
  • Cross the university access road. There are dropped kerbs with no tactile paving on both sides of the crossing (as shown in photographs 2 and 3).
  • There is a bus stop approximately 15m further along the pavement. This bus stop narrows the pavement and is surrounded by a slightly raised area of brick block paving.
  • Continue down Deane Road along the tarmac surfaced path.
  • There is a double legged sign post which narrows down the pavement to a minimum of 90cm and a maximum of 120cm (as shown in photograph 5).
  • Cross the Christ Church car park access road.
  • This crossing has dropped kerbs without tactile on both sides (as shown in photographs 6 and 7).
  • There are multiple signposts on far side of the crossing which provides an access of 115cm through the middle of pavement (as shown in photograph 8).
  • Continue on to the traffic lights indicated by line of tactile paving across the pavement.

Crossing the Traffic Lights to NCME Building

  • Cross Deane Road at the traffic lights.
  • This crossing is a traffic light operated crossing with a level central island, conical rotating alarms and an audible warning system.
  • There is tactile paving on both sides of the crossing and on the central island. There are dropped kerbs on each side of the road.
  • The control panels are between 95 and 100cm.
  • This crossing is shown in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
  • Once across Deane Road turn left and continue down Deane road in the same direction.
  • The pavement has a mix of a tarmac and paving block surface and a moderate gradient away from the road.
  • There is a double legged signpost in the pavement approximately 15m beyond the crossing.
  • Cross the NCME Building access road.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides. This crossing is shown in photographs 5 and 6.
  • Continue along Deane Road.
  • There are multiple signposts at irregular intervals on the pavement.
  • The entrance to the NCME Building is approximately 40m beyond the access road on the right. This entrance is shown in photograph 8.

    • There is step free access at this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The card reader/lock is in a suitable position to allow wheelchair users to gain access.

    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 182cm (5ft 12in).
