Introduction

Piazza to Austin Pearce (AP)

  • From the Piazza bus stops, proceed along the path to the Austin Pearce Building (Block AP).
  • The path is level and has a compact stone surface.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building, by the main campus bus stops.
    • There is ramped/sloped or stepped access at this entrance.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The width of the door opening is 110cm (3ft 7in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of less than 2cm.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located to the right as you face the entrance.
    • The ramp/slope does bypass the step(s).
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
    • The ramp does have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.
  • Step(s) View
    • There is a / are step(s) at this entrance.
    • The step(s) is / are located in front of the entrance.
    • There is / are 5 step(s) to access the entrance.
    • There is not tactile paving at the top and bottom of the step(s).
    • The step(s) is / are clearly marked.
    • The step(s) is / are medium height (11cm - 17cm).
    • The steps do have handrails.
    • The handrails are on both sides.

    • There are manual double heavy doors, 156cm wide which open towards you (pull), to the left of the automatic door as you face it.
    • There is tactile paving at the top of the steps only.

Austin Pearce (AP) to Service Road via Blocks BB/BC

  • Proceed directly through the Austin Pearce Building (Block AP) towards the rear of the building.
  • Leave the Austin Pearce Building (Block AP) via the rear entrance.
  • Cross the block paved, level service road, being aware of passing traffic.
  • Proceed ahead towards the Alan Turing (Block BB)/James Joule (Block BC) buildings (Blocks BB/BC) entrance (photographs 5 and 6).
  • Enter Blocks BB/BC and proceed along the corridor to the rear of the building (photographs 7 and 8).
  • The lighting levels in this corridor are low.
  • Exit through the entrance at the end of the corridor (photograph 9).

  • On exiting Blocks BB/BC, proceed ahead along the uneven service road (photographs 10 and 11).
  • There is not a dropped kerb to access the pedestrian pavement.
  • For safety, if using the road, travel on the right to face oncoming traffic.
  • Continue along and upwards to the top of the steep slope (photograph 12).

Service Road Past Blocks AC/AD to Path in front of Performing Arts Centre (PATS)

  • At the service road, turn right and proceed along the path (photograph 1).
  • The path is level with a tarmac surface, and is uneven in places.
  • Proceed across the gated service entrance into the James Joule Building (Block BC) via dropped kerbs with tactile paving (photographs 2 and 3).
  • Continue for 90m to a service road crossing with dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides (photograph 6).
  • Cross the access road and follow the tarmac path for 25m past the roundabout (photograph 7).
  • Use the dropped kerbs to cross the service road to the Teaching Block (Block TB) (photograph 8, 9 and 10).
  • Proceed along the sometimes uneven block paved path to the left, and up a steep gradient for 20m, to the end (photographs 11 and 12).
  • To access the Teaching Block (Block TB), continue straight ahead onto the service road for 16m, then turn right.

Path in front of Performing Arts Centre (PATS) to University Library

  • Cross the service road using the dropped kerbs with tactile paving (photographs 1 to 3).
  • Turn right and follow the tarmac path with a steep gradient towards the roundabout (photographs 4 to 6).
  • Turn left at the roundabout and continue left up a steep gradient tarmac path (photograph 7).
  • Continue up the steep gradient past the Library entrance on the left (photograph 8).

  • As the path gradient becomes slight, proceed onto block paving (photographs 9,10 and 11).
  • Continue past the marked parking spaces/yellow cross hatched area to the right.
  • Follow the paving to the right (photographs 12 and 13), until a left turn.
  • Follow block paving/tarmac path with slight gradient for 25m to the University Library main entrance which is located on the left (photographs 14 and 15).
