Introduction

  • The Disability and Dyslexia Service is located on the third floor of the Bancroft Building and consists of rooms 3.02, 3.02A, 3.02B, 3.02C, 3.02D, 3.04, 3.06, 3.06A, 3.06B, 3.06C, 3.06D, 3.06E. The Disability and Dyslexia Service reception is located in room 3.06.
  • There is also an Assistive Technology Room located on the second floor in rooms 2.12 and 2.13. There is also an Assistive Technology Room located in the Mile End Library.

Getting Here

  • By Road
    • The Mile End campus is located just off the Mile End Road / A11. This road links the City of London with the A12. The A12 then links to the North Circular Road (and the A11 off that) and the M25.
    • There are Blue Badge bays located throughout the campus, which can be used by anyone with a valid Blue Badge. Car parking is available on campus for staff permit holders. Temporary permits are available for visitors and contractors by prior arrangement.
  • By Bus
    • The campus can be accessed via bus 25 (Oxford Circus to Ilford), 205 (Paddington Station to Bow Church DLR Station) and 339 (Shadwell Station to Leytonstone Station).
  • By Train
    • The nearest railway stations are Liverpool Street Station and Fenchurch Street Station. However, all of the London Terminal stations are within reach of the campus using public transport.
  • By Underground
    • The campus is located between Mile End (on the Hammersmith and City, District and Central lines) and Stepney Green (on the Hammersmith and City and District lines) underground stations.

    • There is step free access at this entrance.
    • There are two sets of manual, heavy, double doors between the lift and this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • The main door(s) open(s) away from you (push).
    • The automatic door(s) is / are push pad activated.
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The door(s) is / are heavy.

    • The entrance to the Disability and Dyslexia Service 3.06 leads into the reception area of the service.

  • The hearing assistance system is not signed.

  • Comments
    • There is a waiting area in the reception with sofa seating at a height of 44cm with armrests and a coffee table at height of 30cm (shown in photograph 3).
    • There is seating in front of the reception desk with a height of 46cm and 44cm both with armrests on both sides (shown in photographs 4 and 5).

    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The door(s) is / are heavy.
    • The width of the door opening is 77cm (2ft 6in).
  • Comments
    • This entrance leads to rooms 3.02, 3.02A, 3.02B, 3.02C (Disability and Dyslexia Service staff offices) and 3.02D (DDS Specialist mentoring room).
    • There is a key card reader placed at 98cm high for staff access during out of office hours.
    • There is also an entrance into room 3.02 and room 3.04 Disability and Dyslexia staff offices directly from the corridor (shown in photographs 2 and 3).
    • These doors are 76cm in width, heavy and push away from you to enter.

Entrance (2.13 leading to 2.12)

  • Entrance
    • This information is for the entrance located on the second floor to the right on exiting the lift.
    • There is step free access at this entrance.
    • There is one set of manual, heavy, double doors between the lift and this entrance.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 107cm (3ft 6in).
    • The main door(s) open(s) away from you (push).
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The door(s) is / are heavy.
    • The width of the door opening is 78cm (2ft 7in).
  • Comments
    • The entrance has Braille and tactile signage.
    • To access this room you will need to pass through a set of double doors that open away from you with a width of 154cm (shown in photograph 2).

2.12 & 2.13

  • These are the specialist Assistive Technology Rooms.
  • 2.12 is located to the rear of 2.13 and is accessed via a single door that is push to open. It serves as a room for isolated study or for one on one teaching. It also contains the Braille embosser.
  • All desks are height adjustable as are the chairs many of which have armrests.
  • Photographs 1, 2 & 3 show room 2.12 and photograph 4 shows room 2.13.

Accessible Toilet

  • Accessible toilet facilities are not available.

    • The nearest accessible toilet is located on the second floor of the Bancroft Building.
