Introduction - Jubilee Gardens

  • The Jubilee Gardens are located between Belvedere Road and Queen’s Walk at the foot of the London Eye.
  • The gardens are a public open space with flower beds, granite pathways and a contemporary playground.
  • There are 4 access points to the gardens; 2 in Queen's Walk near the London Eye and 2 on the opposite side in Belvedere Road.
  • All access points point have a path leading to a circular path around the gardens.
  • There are also grass areas which are accessible to the public and can be accessed via gaps in the seating edges.

Access Point (Queen's Walk 1)

Access Point (Queen's Walk 2)

    • This information is for the access point located on Queen's Walk, close to the London Eye.

Access Point (Belvedere Road 1)

    • This information is for the access point located on Belvedere Road, next to County Hall.

    • The bollards have visual identification bands.
    • The minimum width between the bollards is 120cm.
    • The path leading into the gardens from the access point has a smoother block paving surface in the centre and a more cobbled feel to either side.
      The path has a camber where it slopes down from the central smooth section.
      The smooth section narrows to 132cm after the access point.
    • There is a slope with a very easy incline.

Access Point (Belvedere Road 2)

    • This information is for the access point located on Belvedere Road.
    • There is step-free access at this access point.

    • The bollards have visual identification bands.
    • The minimum width between the bollards is 120cm.
    • There is an information board/map at this access point.
    • There is a TFL 'Legible London' wayfinding post in Belvedere Road to the right of this access point.
    • There is a slope with a very easy incline.

General Access

  • The gardens have a circular path which can be accessed via any of the access points.
  • The paths are very wide but have a smoother surface in the centre of the granite block paving.
  • There are grass areas in the centre of the circular path and at the sides.
  • The grass areas are raised up from the paths to varying degrees.
  • There are stone edging between all the paths and grass areas which is designed to be used as seating where it is more raised.
  • The more raised edging has a height of approximately 50cm.
  • There are gaps in the edging to allow step free access to the grass areas (shown in photographs 6 and 7).
  • These gaps are at least 150cm in width and slope upwards with varying slight gradients.
  • The grass areas do not have paths and there are trees, lamp posts, bushes and flowers in some areas.
  • The grass areas are mostly level but there are some slight slopes up towards the paths.

Seating and Information Boards

  • There is stone edging between all the paths and grass areas which is designed to be used as seating where it is more raised (shown in photograph 1).
  • There are also some wooden benches which seat 3 people with armrests on both sides.
  • The width of the seats are 64cm.
  • There are some information boards along the circular path near the statue and playground which give the story of the gardens.

Adventure Playground

  • The adventure playground can be accessed from the circular path and is designed for the use of children aged 11 or under.
  • It has a gate with a sliding bolt for access.
  • The gate opens away from you and may be difficult for some to open.
  • The opening width of the gate is 97cm.
  • There are various wooden structures for climbing and sitting on.
  • There are no bench seats for parents just the stone edging at the sides.
  • The playground has a soft surface and is level.
  • The playground closes at dusk.

Additional Information

  • There is an 'International Brigade' memorial sculpture which is located off the circular path close to the adventure playground (shown in photograph 1).
  • The adjacent London Eye is clearly visible from the gardens (shown in photograph 2).

Access To (Toilet Block)

  • There is a very slight upwards slope on the block paved surface in front of the toilet block.
    There is also a cable cover strip (from a food and drink van) between the toilet block and the access point to the gardens.
    The accessible toilet cubicle is accessed from the outer wall of the toilet block at the opposite end to the gardens. The standard toilets are all located inside and accessed via security barriers. There is a 50p charge for access to the toilets, but the accessible cubicle can also be accessed via RADAR key.
    The gap between security barriers at the entrances is 58cm.

    • The accessible toilet surveyed is not for the sole use of disabled people.
    • This accessible toilet is located on the far side of a toilet block, next to the gardens on Queen's Walk.
