Introduction - The Old Vic

  • The Old Vic is a 1,000-seat, not-for-profit producing theatre, located just south-east of Waterloo station on the corner of the Cut and Waterloo Road.

Theatre Information

  • General Information View
    • The theatre is located on the junction of Waterloo Road and The Cut.
      Waterloo is the closest train and tube station. Use Exit 2 to leave the station to give access to Waterloo Road.
  • Theatre Information View
    • The designated seating within the theatre is located in the stalls. There are a minimum of 2 designated space up to a maximum of 10 available, depending on the seating configuration for each performance.
    • Advanced bookings are available.
    • A £20 concession rate is available for disabled patrons via The Old Vic’s free Access Membership. Tickets for companions/carers are also available at a concession of £20.
    • The Waterloo Road entrance to the theatre is accessible with lift access to the Box Office, inner foyer and Penny Bar and Cafe on the basement level.
  • Facilities for Hearing Impaired Patrons View
    • There is a hearing assistance system available in the theatre(s).
    • There is a/are headset hearing assistance system(s) in the theatre(s).
    • The hearing assistance system does cover all areas of the theatre(s).
    • Two types of hearing device are available: headsets for people who don’t use hearing aids but would like amplified sound or neck loops for use with a hearing aid by switching it to the ‘T’ setting. Headsets and neck loops should be collected from the cloakroom in the main foyer before the performance. A returnable deposit of £5 is payable. Please inform the Box Office when booking so they can advise on where best to sit.
    • There is a captioned performance for every production. Please contact the theatre or visit the website for more details on captioned performances and to sign up to The Old Vic Access Membership.

    • There is an audio described performance for every production
      The audio described performances are often preceded by a touch tour, where audience members can touch the costumes and sets used in the performance. Please contact the theatre or visit the website for more details on touch tours.
    • Audio described notes of the play can be provided before your visit.
      A large print programme can be provided before your visit.
      If you require Braille in advance of your visit this can be provided on demand.
      Please contact the theatre or visit the website for more details on audio described performances.
    • Assistance dogs are welcome into the auditorium. Please let the Box Office know when booking and they will offer an aisle seat if available. They will also advise of any special effects in the production that might affect a dog. The front-of-house staff are also happy to take care of assistance dogs during performances.
  • Autism Friendly/Relaxed Performances View
    • The theatre also has relaxed performances, which have a more relaxed and informal environment. Audience members are able to make as much noise as they like and come and go as they please. The lights are kept on, and the changes are made to the light and sound of the performance (such as taking out any loud bangs or strobes lights). There is a chill out area in the foyer and a visual story is available. Please contact the theatre or visit the website for more details on open performances.
