Introduction

  • This is a route from the main campus reception building to the Edward Davies Building (School of Art).
  • This route is via bus to the Aberystwyth Bus Station and on foot via Elm Tree Park, Stanley Road, Buarth Road and Trinity Road.
  • This route is approximately 1.6km and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
  • The main hazards on this route include uncontrolled road crossings and steep slopes.

Campus Reception to University Bus Stop

  • Exit the Campus Reception to the right and head out of the campus.
  • The pavement has an even, level, tarmac surface.
  • The pavement takes a slight gradient as you approach the A487 road.
  • As you reach the A487 turn left to cross the university entrance road.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides with a level central island with tactile paving.
  • This crossing is shown in photographs 4, 5 and 6.
  • Head straight down the hill along the pavement.
  • The path has an even, tarmac surface with a steep gradient.
  • The university bus stop is approximately 30m along the pavement on the left.
  • This is a sheltered bus stop with access points, 95cm wide at each end and bench seating inside.
  • The bus stop is shown in photographs 8, 9 and 10.
  • This bus stop provides access to the Aberystwyth Bus and Train Station via the TrawsCymru T2 service.

Aberystwyth Bus and Train Station

  • Aberystwyth Bus Station consists of 7 bus stands.
  • Bus Stands 1, 2, 3 and 4 are located on central island stands in the middle of the bus station area.
  • Bus Stands 5 and 6 are located on the shopping centre side of road.
  • Bus Stand 7 is located on the far side of the road, in front of the job centre.
  • The bus stands, as shown in photograph 5, are sheltered with bench seating.
  • There is a dropped kerb and tactile paving to reach all the central island bus stands as shown in photographs 2 and 4.
  • Bus stand 7 can be accessed via the traffic light controlled crossing in front of the train station or the zebra crossing at the far right of the bus station, as shown in photograph 3.
  • The bus and train station area has even and level flagstone paving.

Aberystwyth Bus and Train Station to Crown Building Car Park

  • Exit the Aberystwyth bus station from north east end (at the far end from the train station).
  • Cross the Rheidol Retail Park access road.
  • This is a pelican crossing with tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.
  • This crossing is shown in photographs 1 and 2.
  • After crossing bear right towards the park entrance.
  • Approximately 5m after the crossing there is a line of corduroy tactile paving, as shown in photograph 3.
  • The pavement in this area has a tarmac surface with a slight gradient.
  • Enter the park via the main gate.
  • This gate has 2 sets of 88cm single doors which open away from you and are held open.
  • This entrance is shown in photographs 3 and 4.
  • Head straight along the central path.
  • This area has an even and level tarmac surface.
  • There is bench seating at intervals as shown in photograph 7.
  • Cross to the left side foot path.
  • Exit the park using the second exit ramp on the left towards the Crown Building car park, approximately 160m into the park.
  • The ramp shown in photographs 10, 11, 12 and 13 has an even tarmac surface with a steep gradient.
  • The ramp curls around to the right and has a fence on the right.
  • Exit the ramp into the car park.
  • There is a short ramp down into the car park.
  • After entering the car park follow the kerb round to the left over the speed bump shown in photograph 16.

Crown Building Car Park to Edward Davies

  • Exit the car park along Stanley Road.
  • Cross the road as you exit the car park and proceed along the road for 20m.
  • Enter the pavement on Stanley Road via the dropped kerb shown in photograph 2.
  • Head along the pavement.
  • This pavement has a level and even concrete slab surface.
  • Follow the pavement around to the right on to Buarth Road.
  • The pavement has a tarmac surface with a steep gradient.
  • At the top of Buarth Road the pavement narrows to 100cm and turns left as the gradient becomes slight, as shown in photographs 9, 10 and 11.
  • At the end of the pavement at the Buarth Road and Trinity Road junction there is a line of tactile paving.
  • This area is shown in photographs 12 and 13.
  • Turn round to the right and follow Trinity Road.
  • The pavement here has an even tarmac surface with a steep gradient.
  • Within the first 15m of Trinity Road there is a Grit Box on the right of the pavement leaving 125cm clearance, followed by a phone box on the left of the pavement leaving 100cm clearance and a post box on the left of the pavement leaving 140cm clearance on the pavement.
  • These obstructions are shown in photographs 14 and 15.
  • Exit the path into the road via the tactile paving and dropped kerb, shown in photograph 16.
  • Continue down Trinity Road in the same direction.
  • This area has an uneven tarmac surface with a slight gradient.
  • This road leads straight to the Edward Davies Building through the building car park.
