Route from Y Sgubor to Hugh Owen Library

Introduction

  • Comments View
    • The distance from Accommodation Office / Y Sgubor to the Hugh Owen Library is approximately 900m in length and should take approximately 11 minutes to complete.
    • There are slopes several of which are steep along the route.
    • Along the route there are surfaces which are predominantly tarmac, Block paved and concrete.
    • Along the route you will head past Pentre Jane Morgan, The Pentre Jane Morgan Hub, P5 and Parry-Williams Building.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the Y Sgubor.
    • There is step free access at this entrance.
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 180cm (5ft 11in).

Main Entrance to B4572

  • Turn right upon exiting the front doors of Y Sgubor and head to the B4572 a distance of approximately 70m.
  • The exterior to the building is a mostly even tarmac surface.
  • There is a small drop kerb as you head along the pavement. This can be seen in photograph 3.
  • Due to the presence of seating the width of the pavement is reduced to 150cm. This can be seen in photograph 4.
  • After going passed the front of the building, turn right and head for the pathway to the B4572. There are several seats as you turn right. These can be seen in photograph 5.
  • The path to the road has a slightly different surface, a steep gradient and a minimum width of 150cm. The path can be seen in photographs 6 and 7.

B4572 to Pentre Jane Morgan

  • Upon reaching the B4572 turn right for approximately 15m and head down the road into a Pentre Jane Morgan a distance of approximately 85m.
  • The service road leading into Pentre Jane Morgan has tactile drop kerbs leading into the road. This can be seen in photograph 1.
  • Immediately turn right down the tarmac road until you reach Pentre Jane Morgan. The road has a steep slope as you head downwards and can be seen in photographs 2, 3 and 4.

Head through Pentre Jane Morgan

  • Turn left into Pentre Jane Morgan and head along Heol Rheidol for a distance of approximately 135m.
  • As you turn left you will encounter a section of tactile block paving followed by obstacle barriers. This can be seen in photograph 1.
  • There is a small tarmac section before a section of brick block paving.
  • This is followed by long section of pavement which has slopes of various gradients. This can be seen in photographs 2, 3 and 4.
  • Head onwards down the hill to the bottom of Pentre Jane Morgan until the road loops to the right and you can see the Pentre Jane Morgan Hub at which point use the first road crossing across Heol Rheidol at the bottom of the hill which can be seen in photograph 5.

Cross Heol Rheidol

  • There are drop kerbs on either side of the tarmac road.
  • There is a slight camber to the road.

Heol Rheidol to Penbryn Area via the Bridge over Penglais Road

  • Turn left upon crossing Heol Rheidol and head along the path to the bridge which you should then cross to reach the Penbryn Area a distance of approximately 170m.
  • Upon crossing the road turn left along the pavement until you reach a small path to your right.
  • The path on turning left can be seen in photograph 1.
  • This should be located next to a parking area and can be seen in photograph 2.
  • Continue along the path all the way across the bridge to the other side of Penglais Road. The path can be seen in photographs 3 and 4.
  • You will then reach the bridge over Penglais Road.
  • The bride has steep slopes to access it on either side and handrails on both sides along its entire length.
  • The bridge can be seen in photographs 5, 6 and 7.

Head Through Penbryn Area

  • Upon crossing the bridge you should arrive in the Penbryn area. Then continue onwards for 115m and cross the unnamed road.
  • On doing so head up the steep slope in front of you which can be seen in photograph 1.
  • Continue along the path until you reach a small car parking area for the Penbryn area which you will need to head through. The parking area can be seen in photograph 3.
  • At the far end of the area there is a brick block paved road crossing that is level with the pavement on either side. There are tactile paving sections on either side of the crossing which can be seen in photograph 4.

Unnamed Road to Hugh Owen Floor E Entrance

  • Head along the unnamed road until you reach the tactile drop kerb opposite the floor E entrance into the Hugh Owen Building. A distance of approximately 135m.
  • After crossing the unnamed road turn right and head along.
  • The pavement here can be seen in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
  • As you proceed you will see the slope leading to the P5 Building to your right on the other side of the road and the Parry-Williams Building at the top of a long slope or steps to your left.
  • You will reach a crossing across the road with tactile drop kerbs on either side. This can be seen in photographs 4 and 5.
  • When you reach the far side of the road the main level change for the entrance is located in front of you. This can be seen in photograph 6.

Outside Access (Floor E)

  • Entrance View
    • This information is for the entrance located at the rear of the Library Floor E.
    • There is ramped/sloped or stepped access at this entrance.
    • There is not a bell/buzzer.
    • There is not an intercom.
    • A key card is required for access at this entrance.
    • The height of the card reader/lock is 120cm (3ft 11in).
    • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at this entrance.
    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 160cm (5ft 3in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Second Set of Doors View
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) automatically (away from you).
    • The door(s) is / are double.
    • The width of the door opening is 150cm (4ft 11in).
    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.
  • Ramp/Slope View
    • There is a ramp/slope at this entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located on the pathway leading to entrance.
    • The ramp/slope is located to the left as you face the entrance.
    • The ramp or slope does bypass the step(s).
    • The ramp/slope gradient is slight.
    • The ramp is permanent.
    • There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
    • The ramp does have handrails.
    • The handrails are on the right going up the ramp.
    • The width of the ramp is 105cm (3ft 5in).

    • The first set of doors open into a foyer.
    • A key card is only required for access into the library via the second set of doors.
    • Beyond the second set of doors is a security barrier.
    • The barrier is 100cm wide.
    • This is shown in the last photograph 11.
