Introduction

Turn Left on Leaving Grosvenor and Head Down Drury Lane for 100m until you Reach Kemble Street

  • The surface of the pavement is tarmac with manhole covers.
  • There is a slight downhill gradient and a slight gradient heading downwards towards the road.

Cross Kemble Street

  • There are drop kerbs with concrete surfaces on either side of the road.
  • Both drop kerbs have manhole covers in them.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • The kerb on the far side of the road is blistered and has a large green archway which encroaches a little upon the kerb. The kerb can be seen in photograph 3.
  • There is a green archway with a gargoyle located next to it that takes up part of the kerb. This can be seen in photographs 3 & 4.

Continue Down Drury Lane to Kean Street 95M

  • The surface of the road is concrete for approximately 40m. The concrete is often uneven.
  • There is a downhill gradient all the way to Kean Street.
  • There is a barrel on the pavement here that reduces the width of the pavement to 80cm (as can be seen in photograph 1).
  • After 40m there is a service road that will need to be overcome. The surface of the road is concrete and is level closer to the buildings and away from the kerb whereas closer to the main road there is a gradient heading downwards towards the main road.
  • The service road can be seen in photograph 3.
  • After this the surface of the road becomes block paving, as can be seen in photograph 4.

Cross Kean Street

  • There are drop kerbs on either side of Kean Street.
  • On the near side it is brick block paving and on the far side it is concrete and there are manhole covers on both.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.

Continue Down Drury Lane 40M

  • The pavement is concrete and has a slight downhill gradient and a slight gradient towards the road.

Turn Left down Aldwych 50M

  • The surface of the road is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • There are small tarmac areas around the trees.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient and a gradient towards the road.
  • There is a bus stop that serves routes 1, 58, 68, X68, 91, 168, 171, 188, N1, N68, N91, N171.

Cross Kingsway 30M

  • There is a pedestrian crossing with an island.
  • There are drop kerbs at either side of the road which are brick block paved. The island is level with the road and a concrete surface.
  • The road is tarmac and extremely busy.

Continue Down Aldwych to Houghton Street 45M

  • Turn right and continue until you reach the pedestrian crossing over Kingsway.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient.

Turn left up Houghton Street Towards the Old Building Main Entrance 45M

  • The path is cobbled and generally uneven.
  • There is a slight gradient towards the cobbled road of Houghton Street. There is also an easy gradient heading uphill.
