COVID-19 Information (York Hospital)

  • The information in this section was taken in January 2022.
  • There are separate doors for entering and exiting.
    There is a one-way entrance system in place at the main hospital entrance.
    There are hand sanitising stations at the hospital entrances, which include mask dispensers and hand sanitisers.
    There are clear screens on the reception desk in the hospital.
    Social distancing is in place in the majority of seating/waiting areas.
    Patients are asked to attend appointments on their own where possible.
    Visiting wards is restricted and by appointment only.
    There are some markings on the stairs which ask you to keep left.
    Some areas have restricted access.

Getting Help and Assistance (York Hospital)

  • There is a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital.
  • The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is located on the ground floor of the hospital building.
  • The telephone number for the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is 01904 726 262.

  • There are volunteers available for help and assistance at the hospital.
  • Volunteers can be found at the main entrance.
  • Documents are available in an alternative format and can be provided to include: Braille on request, large print on request, Makaton on request, different languages on request, voice recognition CD on request and audio on request.
  • There is not an assistance dog toilet or toileting area on the hospital site.
  • Water bowls for assistance dogs are available on request.
  • BSL interpreters can be provided on request.

Getting To (Ward 28)

  • Ward 28 is/are located on the second floor.

  • Enter through the main accessible entrance at the front of the hospital.
    Proceed towards the reception desk. Head around to the right of reception to Junction 3.
    At Junction 3 turn left and proceed along the main corridor passing Junctions 4, 5, 6 and 7.
    At Junction 8 turn right and enter the lift foyer.
    The visitor/patient lifts AL7, AL8 and AL9 are on the right.
    Take the lift to the second floor and on exiting the lift turn right through the double doors.
    Ward 28 is on the left.
  • There is step free access, via lift, to Ward 28.
  • Ward 28 is approximately 10m from the lifts.
  • There is a/are manual, double door(s) which may be difficult to open between the lifts and the department/service.
  • There are resting areas along the route.
  • Wayfinding signage is provided.
  • Dementia friendly signage is not provided.
  • There is some flooring in corridors which is shiny and could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
