Access Guide
Access To (Elephant Habitat - Lily Pond Car Park)
- The Elephant Habitat is located to the south of the park, opposite the Lily Pond car park. The Elephant House is located to the left after crossing the zebra crossing from the Lily Pond Car park, the first large building on the right. The sheltered viewing area is located to the right after crossing the zebra crossing from the Lily Pond car park. The sheltered viewing area is approximately 75m from the Lily Pond car park.
- The distance from Lily Pond car park is 200m.
- The most accessible route has a very easy slope.
Entrance (Elephant House)
- This entrance is located up on the first floor of the building.
- The entrance area is not clearly signed.
- There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
- There is step-free access via slope at the entrance.
- The slope has a steep gradient.
- The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
- There are double manual doors at this entrance.
- The doors are permanently held open.
- The width of the opening is 108cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
Exhibition Space (Elephant House)
- This attraction is internal and external.
- There is step-free level access throughout all areas.
- The following areas have step-free access via ramps or slopes: the external viewing area.
- Access throughout may include manual doors.
- There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
- The flooring is shiny.
- The walls and floor have a medium visual contrast.
- The following may be experienced here: strong smells and sudden loud noises.
- There may be background noise.
- Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade.
- Display information includes: information boards and televisions/screens.
- There is not a hearing assistance system.
- Seating available in this area includes: benches.
- There are shows/talks with no designated seating for wheelchair users.
