Access To (Giraffe House - Lily Pond Car Park)

  • The Giraffe House is located to the south of the park, near the Lily Pond car park. After crossing the zebra crossing from the Lily Pond Car park, turn left and follow the path to the wishing well in front of the Elephant and Rhinoceros Houses. Follow the path to the left from the wishing well past the Ostrich House to the large adjoining Giraffe House.
  • The distance from Lily Pond car park is 315m.
  • The most accessible route has a very easy slope.

Entrance (Giraffe House)

  • This entrance is located to the left of the Giraffe House building.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
  • The ramp has a slight gradient.
  • The ramp is over 150cm wide with no handrails.
  • The ramp bypasses the steps.
  • There are 15 steps with no handrails.
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • There is an opening without doors.

Exhibition Space (Giraffe House)

  • This attraction is internal and external.
  • There is step-free level access throughout all areas.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • Some flooring is shiny.
  • The walls and floor visual contrast varies between low and high.
  • The following may be experienced here: strong smells.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.
  • Display information includes: audio guides and information boards.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • Seating available in this area includes: benches.
