Access To (Drive-Thru Animal Reserves - Section 1 - African Animals)

  • Entry to the Animal Reserves on to the left of the road through the park, beyond the Lily Pond car park. All windows, sunroofs and doors must be kept closed/locked. The entry gate is opened by a member of staff upon approach. There is a 15mph speed limit, with 2 lanes going through to allow for parking and overtaking. Signage instructs to drive off slowly if approached by a rhinoceros. There are White Rhino, Greater Kudu, Eland, Lechwe Ankole cattle and Guineafowl among the animals roaming fields and crossing the road in this area to look out for.
  • The distance from the entry gate to the exit gate before the Lions is 700m.

Access To (Drive-Thru Animal Reserves - Section 2 - Lions)

  • Entry to the Lion Reserve is controlled via 2 sets of gates with traffic lights. The entry gate is opened automatically via a staff control tower. Signage instructs to use hazard lights and horn to attract attention if in any trouble. There is a staff security vehicle in this area at all times. There are 2 lanes to allow for parking and overtaking. The lions roam freely throughout the area, although there is a marked and signed lion crossing point towards the exit gate. The exit is controlled via traffic lights and the staff control tower operating an automatic exit gate.
  • The distance from the Lion Reserve entry gate to the exit gate is 450m.

Access To (Drive-Thru Animal Reserves - Section 3 (Optional) - Macaques)

  • Beyond the Lion Reserve the Monkey Jungle is located to the left, however signage warns that they will jump on vehicles and may cause damage. To bypass this area, continue round to the right instead - the Macaques may also be viewed from within the park. Entry to this area is controlled by staff who will open the gate upon approach. Signage reminds visitors to stay in vehicles and keep doors locked and windows/sunroofs closed. There is a grid to drive over slowly upon entry. There are 2 lanes to allow for parking and overtaking. Staff will come out and open the exit gate upon approach. There are Give Way signs as you exit to allow any vehicles bypassing this area (coming from the right) past.
  • The distance from the entry gate to exit gate is 340m.

Access To (Drive-Thru Animal Reserves - Section 4 - Asian and Other Animals)

  • This area is located straight ahead if exiting to Macaques, or round to the right if bypassing the Macaques from the Lion Reserve. There is traffic light controlled entry and an automatic gate. Beyond the gate there is a cattle grid across the road. Bactrian Camels, Nilgai, Pere David's Deer, Axis Deer, Persian Fallow Deer, Eld's Deer and Bison can be seen roaming the fields and road through this section. There are 2 lanes to allow parking and overtaking in this area. There is a further cattle grid across the road at the exit, which does not have any gates.
  • The distance from the entrance gate to the reserve exit is 800m.

Access To (Drive-Thru Animal Reserves - Way Back to Main Park, or Exit)

  • Beyond the reserves, to turn back into the park or to go through the reserves again, turn left and follow the road and signage. To exit follow the signs round to the right past the entry kiosks. To exit the park from the main road through it, continue ahead instead of entering the reserves on the left.
