Introduction
- The following information describes the route from Watford High Street Station to Vicarage Road Stadium.
- The route leads along Exchange Road, Ladys Close, Farraline Road and Vicarage Road.
- The approximate distance of this route is 1km.
- The route takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
- The majority of paths along the route consist of flagstone or block paving as well as tarmac.
- There is step-free access throughout this route.
- The potential hazards on this route include; congested pathways steep slopes and uneven surfaces.
Watford High Street Station
- There is not step-free access leading from the station platforms to the station exit.
- There is step-free access when exiting the station.
- There are no accessible toilet facilities available at this station.

Watford High Street Station to Ladys Close
- Upon exiting the station, turn left.
- Use either the slope or step to access the path adjacent to Exchange Road.
- Once on the path, continue ahead for approximately 270 metres towards Ladys Close.
- There are slopes with slight and steep gradients in places along this section of the route.
- After approximately 160 metres, continue straight ahead past the underpass.
- The path surface consists of flagstone paving and tarmac.
- The path surface is mostly even.
- On the approach to Ladys Close there is a set of staggered barriers that cause the path to narrow.
Ladys Close to Farraline Road Crossing
- Once on Ladys Close, continue ahead for approximately 100 metres towards the footpath that leads to Farraline Road.
- The footpath is located on the left, along Ladys Close.
- There are staggered barriers that cause the path to narrow.
- The staggered barriers are located at the beginning and end of the footpath between Ladys Close and Farraline Close
- Once on the footpath, continue ahead for a further 120 metres towards Farraline Road.
- There are slight and steep slopes in places along this section of the route.
- The path surface consists of tarmac.
- The path surface is uneven in places.
- Having reached Farraline Road, turn right and continue ahead for 15 metres towards the Farraline Road crossing point.
Farraline Road Crossing
- This crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving available on both sides.
- The road surface consists of tarmac and is even.
- The road surface is cambered.
- There are visual signals available at this crossing.
- The visual signals are activated via push buttons. These are between the heights of 100cm and 120cm.
- There are rotating cones located at the base of the push button boxes to indicate when it is safe to cross.
- Having crossed, turn right.
Farraline Road Crossing to St James Road Crossing
- Continue ahead along Farraline Road for approximately 125 metres towards the St James Road crossing.
- After approximately 20 metres, the path veers to the left.
- There are slight gradients in places along this section of the route.
- The path surface consists of tarmac.
- The path surface is mostly even.
- The path narrows to as little as 90cm in places due to road signs.
- There are multiple driveways along this section of the route.
- Caution is advised due to vehicles entering/exiting the driveways.
St James Road Crossing
- This crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving available on both sides.
- The road surface consists of tarmac and is even.
- The road surface is cambered.
- There are no visual signals available at this crossing.
- Having crossed, continue ahead.
St James Road Crossing to the Outer Concourse
- Continue ahead along Vicarage Road towards the outer concourse.
- There is an uneven area of path beyond the crossing point.
- Stay to the left when passing the tree, as the path is wider.
- There is a traffic exclusion zone in place along Vicarage Road on matchdays, from 2 hours prior to kick-off.
