  • The following information describes the route from Stratford Station to the London Stadium.
  • The approximate distance of this route is 980m.
  • The route takes approximately 14 - 18 minutes.
  • The route leads through Westfield Shopping Centre (using The Street and Chestnut Plaza), along Stratford Walk and over Bridge 1.
  • Bridge 1 is closest to Entrances G, H and J.
  • The one road crossing is in an area closed to traffic on matchdays; all other sections of this route are traffic-free.
  • Part of the route is under cover and there are many opportunities to sit down and rest.
  • The paths along the route consist of tarmac, concrete paving slabs, stone paving slabs and resin-bound gravel.
  • There is limited street signage located along the route directing you to the stadium but there would usually be stewards at key points on matchdays.
  • The potential hazards on this route include; bollards, freestanding shop signs and planters and congested pathways.
  • Stratford Station is one of the pick-up points for the Accessible Shuttle Bus Service.

Stratford Station

  • Stratford Station has 17 platforms and serves mainline, Overground, Underground and DLR services.
  • Some services such as the Jubilee Line and DLR have level access from the train to the platform.
  • On services where there is a step between the train and the platform, there are staff available to operate a portable ramp.
  • There is step-free access by lift or ramp to all platforms.
  • There are accessible and standard toilet facilities on the main concourse and a further accessible toilet near to the subway exit.
  • The toilets may be kept locked – please ask staff for access.
  • The station has exits to Stratford High Street, to a mezzanine leading to Westfield Stratford City and from the subway level on the north side of the station.
  • On matchdays staff will direct supporters to the best exit.

Stratford Station to The Street

  • From Stratford Station High Street and the mezzanine exits, turn left and take the lifts, escalators or stairs up to the bridge level.
  • The bridge is wide and has an easy uphill and then downhill slope as it crosses the railway lines.
  • There is stone paving in this area.
  • After approximately 130m, at the far side of the bridge, go ahead towards the Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre.
  • There are lifts and stairs in this area to bring pedestrians from the station's subway exit and from Montfichet Road and Stratford City Bus Station up to the bridge level.

The Street to Chestnut Plaza

  • After the bridge, continue ahead under the Marks and Spender bridge link to enter The Street.
  • On matchdays there are likely to be stewards directing supporters ahead and preventing supporters entering the indoor section of the shopping centre, through the doors to the right.
  • This section of The Street is sheltered.
  • The path is wide and level with a surface of stone slabs.
  • There is some public bench seating in the centre of the mall.
  • Many of the restaurants on each side of the mall also have private dining areas in the centre.
  • There is likely to be background music from the shops and restaurants in this area.
  • After 200m there is a tall, black triangular structure where The Street meets Chestnut Plaza.

Chestnut Plaza to Westfield Way

  • At the junction, bear left onto Chestnut Plaza.
  • This section is not sheltered.
  • The mall has a level surface of stone slabs.
  • The stone slabs are non-slip but may appear shiny in wet weather.
  • There may be some free-standing signs for the shops in the walkway in this area.
  • Continue ahead for approximately 100m to the Westfield Way security barriers.
  • Continue ahead through the gap on the left hand side.
  • There is a raised threshold through this gap which is clearly marked.
  • This opening may be closed close to kick-off so an alternative route may have to be taken.
  • Stewards will direct supporters if this is the case.
  • After going through the gap there are bollards at the junction with Westfield Avenue.
  • The bollards are 100cm high and have a contrasting band.
  • The gap between the bollards is 120cm.

Westfield Way to Stratford Walk (London Aquatics Centre)

  • Continue ahead through the bollards to the pedestrian crossing.
  • The crossing is raised level with the pavement and marked by tactile paving.
  • On matchdays the crossing is closed to traffic before kick-off and there are stewards present.
  • After the crossing, continue ahead between the bollards onto Stratford Walk.
  • The bollards are 100cm high with a contrasting band.
  • The gap between the bollards is 120cm.
  • The path has a surface of light coloured stone paving slabs.
  • There are some contrasting bands of a darker colour then resin-bound gravel on the path.
  • There is a slight uphill slope on the path.
  • There is bench seating, including some with backrests and armrests in this area.
  • After approximately 250m the path widens out at the London Aquatics Centre.
  • There is bench seating between the central planters in this area.

Stratford Walk (London Aquatics Centre) to the Outer Concourse (via Bridge 1)

  • From the Aquatics Centre, continue ahead on Stratford Walk
  • There are bollards 104cm high with gaps between them of 132cm in this location.
  • This section is elevated as the walkway bridges over two rivers.
  • The path surface is of resin-bound gravel and there is a long slope downhill.
  • There is seating available in this section.
  • Continue ahead for approximately 70m to another set of bollards.
  • These bollards are 104cm high with gaps between them of 140cm.
  • Continue ahead for approximately 80m towards the security check area.
  • There are bollards flush with the path surface in this area.
  • These bollards could be raised at various times.
  • The accessible lane is to the right of Bridge 1 and is 150cm wide.
  • After the security area there is level access from the bridge to outer concourse.
