Introduction

  • This is a route from the Visualisation Centre to the Carwyn James Building.
  • This route is via university access roads and passes the Cledwyn Building, Student Welcome Centre, IBERS, Llandinam Building, Edward Llwyd, Physical Sciences, University Sports Centre and Sports Cage.
  • This route is approximately 550m long and will talk approximately 6 minutes by foot.
  • The main hazards along this route are uncontrolled crossings, congested pavements and crossings through building car parks.

Visualisation Centre to IBERS

  • Exit to the right from the front entrance.
  • This area has an even and level concrete tile surface, as shown in photographs 1 and 2.
  • Cross the access road in front of you.
  • The pavement drops down steeply towards the road.
  • There is tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides of the car park.
  • Continue ahead, past the front of the Cledwyn Building, shown in photograph 6.
  • The pavement along the front of the Cledwyn Building is even, level and has a tarmac surface.
  • There is a crossing directly in front of the Cledwyn front entrance.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.
  • The road between is a potholed and uneven tarmac surface.
  • Continue straight past the front of the Cledwyn Building.
  • The path surface here is tarmac, even and level.
  • After approximately 15m there is a crossing with tactile paving and dropped kerbs for access to the Student Welcome Centre on the far side of the access road, this is shown in photographs 10, 11 and 12.
  • Head underneath the building link arch, shown in photograph 13.
  • Beyond the link arch follow the pavement to the right.
  • The pavement heads around in a U-shape as shown in photographs 14, 15 and 16.
  • This area has an even and level concrete tile surface.
  • After following the path around in a U-shape the path leads between the Llandinam Building on your left and IBERS Building on your right and has bench seating periodically along each side of the path.

IBERS to Physical Science

  • Keep to the right of the path as you pass the end of the IBERS Building.
  • Head straight down the path which has an even and level concrete slab which is 140cm wide.
  • After approximately 15m cross the Blue Badge bay car park area.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.
  • Continue straight to pass in front of the Edward Llwyd Building.
  • After approximately 5m there is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the left side of the pavement, continue straight past the dropped kerb.
  • This area has an even and level tarmac surface.
  • There is a crossing in front of the Edward Llwyd front entrance.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.
  • The road is uneven and level with a tarmac surface.
  • This crossing is shown in photographs 6, 7 and 8.
  • Continue straight ahead.
  • This area has an uneven and level tarmac surface.
  • There is a section of mixed blister and corduroy tactile paving at end of main section of the Edward Llwyd Building.
  • This tactile paving marks the crossing for the Physical Sciences Building on the left.
  • This is shown in photograph 10.

Physical Sciences to Carwyn James

  • Continue straight along the front of the Edward Llwyd Building.
  • Crossing at the end of the pavement to cross the car park access road.
  • This crossing has tactile paving and dropped kerbs on both sides.
  • This crossing is shown in photographs 2 and 3.
  • Continue straight along the road.
  • The pavement bends to the right and then back to the left to cross in front of the Sports Centre.
  • This pavement is even and level with a tarmac surface.
  • There is a fire escape staircase off the front of the Sports Centre which narrows the pavement on the right to 170cm, shown in photograph 6.
  • Cross to the left of the pavement immediately after the staircase to avoid the ramped area of the Sports Centre entrance, shown in photographs 7 and 8.
  • Continue straight along the front of the Sports Centre.
  • There is a dropped kerb and tactile paving crossing at either end of a 30m railing section of pavement of the far side of the Sports Centre entrance.
  • This area is 140cm wide with an even, level and tarmac surface, this area is shown in photographs 9 and 10.
  • At the end of the pavement cross the car park access road directly ahead.
  • There are 2 similar crossings for the entrance and exit roads, these both have dropped kerbs and tactile paving.
  • These crossings are shown in photographs 11, 12 ,13 and 14.
  • Continue straight ahead along the path.
  • This path has a tarmac surface which becomes concrete after approximately 5m.
  • This path has an even, steep slope down away from you and bends round to the left.
  • This path is shown in photographs 15 and 16.
  • This path leads in front of the Sports Cage.
  • The end of the path meets the top of the entrance ramp to the Sports Cage entrance, this is marked by tactile paving.
  • At the end of the path cross the road to the left.
  • This crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving on both sides.
  • After crossing turn right and head up the path.
  • This path has an even concrete surface and a steep slope leading up away from you.
  • After approximately 70m there is tactile paving and a dropped kerb which marks the Carwyn James car park entrance.
  • Exit the pavement into the road and follow around to the left.
  • Cross the building car park in front of the Carwyn James Building, towards the ramped front entrance.
