New Detailed Access Guides launch at Gloucestershire hospitals

Patients, visitors and carers can now find detailed accessibility information for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital, following our new partnership with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We've worked with the Trust to create a series of Detailed Access Guides for their hospital facilities, giving people the practical information they need to help them prepare for a hospital visit before they arrive.

Funded by Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, the first guides for Gloucestershire Royal Hospital launched on 12 October 2026, with Guides for key areas of Cheltenham General Hospital also available now. The remaining Guides for Cheltenham General Hospital are expected to follow in early 2027.

Helping people plan ahead with confidence

Visiting a hospital can feel daunting, particularly when you're unfamiliar with the building or have specific access requirements. Having reliable information in advance can make it easier to plan your journey and prepare in advance.

Our Detailed Access Guides include information about parking, step-free access, lifts, accessible toilets, hearing loops, seating, walking distances, signage and more.

Director of Improvement and Delivery Will Cleary-Gray said:

“We know everyone's accessibility needs are different. By working with AccessAble, we can provide clear, reliable information that helps patients, visitors and carers make informed decisions about their visit and reduces some of the uncertainty that can come with attending hospital.”

“Coming to hospital can be stressful, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the site or have specific access requirements. These guides will help people plan ahead with confidence by providing detailed information about our facilities before they arrive."

The Guides are created following an in-person survey, where our team collect factual information about facilities and features. This can help people with mobility needs, sensory impairments, and those living with long-term health conditions, as well as anyone who would benefit from knowing more before their visit.

Our Chief Executive, Anna Nelson, explains:

“By investing in detailed, accurate accessibility information, the Trust is demonstrating real leadership in helping disabled people, patients and visitors plan their journeys with greater confidence.

“We know that accessibility is about more than the physical environment; having the information you need before you arrive can make an enormous difference to someone's experience.”

Working together to improve the hospital experience

The project reflects a shared commitment to helping people access hospital services with greater confidence and supporting a more inclusive experience for patients, visitors and carers.
