Access Guide
Introduction
- The Gaeltacht Quarter is an Irish speaking neighbourhood, located to the west of Belfast City Centre, centred around Falls Road.
Belfast's Gaeltacht Quarter does not have defined geographical boundaries.
There are several notable buildings in the area including the Royal Victoria Hospital, St Mary's College, St Peter's Cathedral and Clonard Monastery.
Two of Belfast's most well known cemeteries lie within the Gaeltacht Quarter, the Belfast City Cemetery and the Milltown Cemetery.
There are several visitors' centres and museums within the Gaeltacht Quarter, including the An Cultúrlann Centre, the Áras Uí Chonghaile (James Connolly Visitor Centre) and a variety of sites of interest, such as the International Wall, statues, murals, bars, restaurants and cafés.

- There are information hubs located throughout the quarter describing the area and places of interest.
- Accessibility in the area varies according to location.
- Paths are tarmacked, with some trees, bollards and raised drain covers along the pavement.
- Generally the area is not very hilly and slopes are slight.
- Crossings of major roads include signal controlled crossings, with dropped kerbs and blister paving at major junctions.
Toilets
- There are not municipal toilets available in the Gaeltacht Quarter, but there are toilets available in the Kennedy shopping centre and in individual venues within the area.
