Getting Here

  • By Car
  • The village is situated on St Ives Road which is approximately 6.9 miles from the A1(M) Brampton Junction which gives direct links to London to the South and A1(M) to the north via the A141.
  • By Bus
  • There are a couple of bus stop on St Ives Road and also one near the junction of Houghton Hill Road and St Ives Road.

  • By Train
  • The nearest train station is Huntingdon which is 3.8 miles away from the start of the route. From there take the ‘B the busway’ from Millfield Park stop which is approximately 0.2 miles from Huntingdon Station.
  • Assistance at this station can be booked. Wheelchairs are available at this station but may only be available when the station is staffed.

1: Junction - Houghton Hill Road and St Ives Road

  • The roadway has two way traffic.
  • The surface of the road is tarmac.
  • The surface of the pathway is tarmac and is uneven in places.
  • There is a bus stop opposite the junction on Houghton Hill Road.
  • There is a crossing at this junction on Houghton Hill Road that services the bus stop as shown in photographs 3, 4 and 5.
  • The crossing has dropped kerbs and tactile paving.

2: Houghton Hill Road to Home Farm Road via St Ives Road

  • The distance from Houghton Hill Road to Home Farm Road is approximately 79 metres.
  • The pathway is tarmac and is undulated in places.
  • There is a bus shelter with bench seating on this route as shown in photographs 5 and 6.

3: Junction - Home Farm Road and St Ives Road

  • There is a single crossing at this junction.
  • There is a dropped kerb either side of Home Farm Road.
  • There is a steep slope down and back up the dropped kerb.
  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • Two way traffic flows in and out of Home Farm Road into St Ives Road.

4: Home Farm Road to Farm Close via St Ives Road

  • The distance from Home Farm Road to Farm Close is approximately 70 metres.
  • The pathway is tarmac and is undulated in places.
  • There is a slight uphill slope towards Farm Close.

5: Junction - Farm Close and St Ives Road

  • There is a single crossing at this junction.
  • There is a dropped kerb either side of Home Farm Road.
  • There is a steep slope down and back up the dropped kerb.
  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • Two way traffic flows in and out of Farm Close into St Ives Road.

6: Farm Close to The Green via St Ives Road

  • The distance from Farm Close to The Green is approximately 200 metres.
  • The pathway is tarmac and is undulated in places.
  • There is a slight uphill slope towards The Green.
  • There is a left hand camber along the pathway.
  • After approximately 24m along, the pathway switches to the right hand side of St Ives Road. The pathway then becomes narrower (less than 100cm wide).
  • There is a crossing with a dropped kerb on both sides.
  • The dropped kerb leading into the road is steep.
  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • Two way traffic travels along St Ives Road.
  • There may be cars parked on the kerb along the pathway as shown in photographs 9 and 10.
  • There are other roads that join onto this route; however, they do not affect the pathway used.

7: Junction - St Ives Road, The Green, Chapel Lane, Thicket Road and Mill Street

  • This is a 5 road junction with traffic coming from all directions.
  • There is a dropped kerb at the end of St Ives Road.
  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • The road surface is undulated.
  • The distance between the pathways on St Ives Road and Mill Street is approximately 30 metres.
  • Two way traffic travels across St Ives Road/The Green/Huntingdon Road.
  • Photographs 1 - 5 show the route exiting St Ives Road, crossing The Green and entering Mill Street.
  • Photographs 6 - 8 show the junction of the St Ives Road, The Green, Chapel Lane, Thicket Road and Mill Street.

8: Thicket Road to Houghton Mill via Mill Street

  • The distance from Thicket Road to Houghton Mill is approximately 180 metres.
  • The pathway is tarmac and is undulated in places.
  • There is a slight uphill slope towards Houghton Mill.
  • Approximately 120m along the route the pathway ends, and pedestrians will have to use the road as shown in photographs 9 and 10.
  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • The road is undulated in places.
  • Two way traffic travels along Mill Street.

9: Junction - Mill Street and Houghton Mill

  • The road surface is tarmac.
  • Two way traffic flows in and out of Houghton Mill into Mill Street.
  • There are bollards at the end of the route which leads to a pedestrian only area.
  • There are cobbles in between the bollards.
