Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free level.
  • There is step-free level access on the approach to the building from the main wing of Anselm, Fleming and Moore.
    There is a slight ramp on the approach from the CCCU wing of Anselm, Verena Holmes, and access gate 5 on North Holmes Road. This ramp is over 150cm wide, is long, and has no handrails.
  • Fisher has 2 entrances. The stairwell entrance provides access directly into the stairwell, via a single step and a single manual door.
    The entrance (access to F0.07 and lift) provides access to room F0.07 on the ground floor and the lift, via 2 sets of single manual doors, with a single step before the first set of doors and three additional steps after the second set of doors.
  • The entrances are both signed as "Fisher".
  • The entrance (access to F0.07 and lift) provides access to room F0.07 on the ground floor and the lift, via 2 sets of single manual doors, with a single step before the first set of doors and three additional steps after the second set of doors.
  • The stairwell entrance provides access directly into the stairwell on the ground floor, via a single step and a single manual door.
    This entrance gives access to the stairs only - there is no access to anything else on the ground floor or the lift via this entrance.
  • Offices F0.02 and F0.03 on the ground floor have their own outside access leading directly to these rooms only, with no access to these rooms from within the building.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors, and to all floors, via the lift.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes consist of low-pile carpet.
  • There are not resting/seating areas in any circulation or lobby areas of the building.
  • The building does not have any wayfinding signage; however all rooms are clearly numbered and signed with written text on their doors.
  • There are not manual doors along the circulation corridors; however there are manual doors to enter and exit both the lift lobby and stairwell from the first floor upwards.
  • All circulation corridors within the building are narrow (minimum width 85cm); as are all doors, including those to enter and exit the lift lobby from the first floor upwards (minimum width 67cm).

    • The shared step-free toilet facilities are located on the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors, to the left as you exit the lift.

  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is a canopy or recess which provides weather protection at the entrance.

  • The second door has a low visual contrast.
  • There is stepped access as you enter.
  • There are 3 steps with no handrails.
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 17cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.

Entrance (Stairwell)

  • This entrance is located at the front of the building, opposite the CCCU wing of Anselm.
  • The entrance area is clearly signed.

Lift

  • The lift surveyed is located straight ahead as you enter through the entrance (F0.07 and Lift).
  • The distance from the entrance (F0.07 and Lift - second set of doors) is 5m.
  • The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and narrow walkways.
  • Floors G, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift does not have a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a medium visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
  • The lift door opening width is 74cm.
  • The internal dimensions of the lift are 153cm (width) x 101cm (depth).

Stairs

  • The stairs surveyed are located immediately ahead as you enter the building through the stairwell entrance.
  • There are double manual doors to access the stairwell.
  • The ground floor (stairwell entrance only), first floor, second floor, third floor, fourth floor, fifth floor and sixth floor can be accessed by these stairs.
  • There are 20 steps between floors.
  • The steps are clearly marked and have a handrail on the left going up.
  • The handrail is not easy to grip.
  • The handrail covers the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrail does not extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey, with unshaded light sources.
  • There are also single manual doors to enter and exit the stairwell from the first floor upwards, in addition to the double manual doors.

Standard Toilet Facilities

  • The shared standard toilet facilities were surveyed.
  • The toilet is located on the first floor, to the left as you exit the lift.
  • The distance from the lift is 4m.
  • The most accessible route has step-free level access, manual doors, narrow walkways and narrow openings.
  • There is step-free level access into the toilet.
  • There is written text signage on or near the door.
  • The door opens inwards and has a low visual contrast.
  • The width of the door opening is 67cm.
  • Internally the door has a low visual contrast.
  • There are no ambulant toilet facilities available.
  • There is a wash basin, a wall mounted soap dispenser and a wall mounted towel dispenser available.
  • The wash basin has a twist/turn tap.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • There are identical standard toilet facilities in the same location on the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors.
