About
View
- Fynden and Thorne is a medium sized building with 3 floors. It is split into two wings, the Fynden wing and the Thorne wing, with no internal access between either wing on any floor.
- There are 4 main staircases within the building - 2 in the Fynden wing, and 2 in the Thorne wing. There are no lifts.
- The floors are not officially signed; however they are known as the ground floor, first floor and second floor.

- There is a campus car park, with Blue Badge parking available.
- There is on-street standard parking.
- The nearest train station is Canterbury East.
- The nearest bus station is Canterbury Bus Station.

Getting Inside
- The approach to the building differs depending on the building/location you are approaching from.
- There is step-free level access (via very slight slopes) on the approach from the Red Car Park and Ramsey.
There is step-free access (via slight ramps/slopes) on the approach from Erasmus and Powell.
There is step-free access (via steep ramps/slopes) on the approach from Laud, Somerville and Invicta. - Fynden and Thorne has four entrances.
The Fynden - Left and Fynden - Right entrances provide step-free access (via steep ramps) to the ground floor of the Fynden wing.
The Thorne - Left and Thorne - Right entrances provide step-free level access (via very slight ramps) to the ground floor of the Thorne wing.
There are single automatic doors at all four entrances. - Both entrances to the Fynden wing are signed as "Fynden".
Both entrances to the Thorne wing are signed as "Thorne". - The Thorne - Right entrance provides step-free level access (via a very slight ramp) to the ground floor of the Thorne wing.
The Fynden - Left entrance provides step-free access (via a steep ramp) to the ground floor of the Fynden wing.

The Fynden - Right entrance provides step-free access (via a steep ramp) to the ground floor of the Fynden wing. - The building is split into two wings, the Fynden wing and the Thorne wing, with no internal access between either wing on any floor.
There are no lifts, with access to the first and second floors of both wings being via stairs only.
Getting Around
- There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors; however there are no lifts in the building and access to the first and second floors is via stairs only.
- Floor surfaces along all circulation routes consist of low pile carpet.
- There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas with a mixture of seating.
- There is no wayfinding signage within the building; however all rooms are clearly numbered and signed with written text.
- There are single manual doors along circulation routes throughout the building, some of which are permanently held open. There are also single manual doors to enter and exit all stairwells from the first floor upwards.
- All circulation corridors in the building are narrow (minimum width 83cm), and the doors within these corridors are also narrow (minimum width 75cm).

Toilet Facilities

- There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
- Toilets with adaptations are located on the ground floor, to the right as you enter the building through the Fynden Entrance - Left; and also on the ground floor, to the left as you enter the building through the Thorne Entrance - Right.
- All toilets with adaptations have a right hand transfer space.
- The shared toilet facilities are located along the main corridor on the ground, first and second floors of both the Fynden wing and the Thorne wing.

- Standard shower facilities are located on the first and second floor of the Fynden wing, on the right hand side of the main corridor as you exit the left stairs; and on the first and second floor of the Thorne wing, on the left hand side of the main corridor as you exit the right stairs.

- The car park is open air/surface.
- The car park surface consists of tarmac and block paving.

- This entrance is located at the end of the building closest to North Holmes Road, off the courtyard opposite Somerville and adjacent to Invicta.

- There is a key fob/card reader at a height of 87cm.
- There is a single automatic door at this entrance.
- The door opens towards you.

- There is a push pad or push button to exit at a height of 120cm.
Stairs (Fynden - Left)
- The stairs surveyed are located immediately to the right as you enter the building through the Fynden - Left entrance.
- There is a single manual door to access the stairwell.
- The ground floor, first floor and second floor can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 15 steps between floors.
- The steps are clearly marked and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
