Overview

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building (rear entrance) from the car park is step-free and level.
  • Meadow Road, on which the building is located, has a slight gradient. There are slight slopes on all approaches to the building if you arrive by public transport or on foot.
  • Lucy Fildes Building has three entrances. The rear entrance provides step-free level access to the ground floor, via a single automatic door.
    The front entrance provides stepped access to the ground floor, via 2/3 steps. There are double manual doors (with one leaf locked) at this entrance.
    The basement entrance provides step-free access (via a steep ramp) to the basement floor. There are two sets of single manual doors at this entrance.
  • The rear entrance has no signage.
    The front entrance is signed as "Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology - Lucy Fildes"
    The basement entrance has no signage.
  • The rear entrance provides step-free level access to the ground floor, via a single automatic door.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors via lift.
  • Floor surfaces along circulation routes consist of low pile carpet, with some shiny laminate flooring on the ground floor.
  • There are resting areas in some circulation and lobby areas of the building with a mixture of seating.
  • Overhead and wall-mounted wayfinding signage, in addition to floor plan signage, is provided throughout the building on all floors.
  • There are a mixture of automatic, double manual and single manual doors along circulation corridors throughout the building. There are also single manual doors to enter and exit the rear stairwell on all floors.

Toilet and Changing Facilities

  • Toilet Facilities View
    • There are 2 toilets with adaptations.
    • Toilets with adaptations are located on the ground floor, immediately to the left as you enter the building through the rear entrance, and on the second floor, to the left and then on the right as you exit the lift.
    • All toilets with adaptations have a left hand transfer space.
    • The shared step-free toilet facilities are located on the ground floor, straight ahead and on the left as you enter the building through the rear entrance; on the second floor, straight ahead as you exit the lift, and also to the left and then on the right as you exit the lift; and on the third floor, to the left and then on the right as you exit the lift.
    • The male and female step-free toilet facilities are located on the first floor, to the left and then on the right as you exit the lift.
  • Washroom and Shower Facilities View
    • Standard shower facilities are located on the third floor, to the left and then on the right as you exit the lift, within the standard shared toilet next to the window.

Parking

  • Car Park View
    • The car park is located to the rear of the building, through the archway.
    • The car park is open air/surface, underground and sheltered.
    • The car park surface consists of concrete and block paving.
    • The height of the restriction barrier is 260cm.
    • There are 2 designated Blue Badge parking bays available.
    • The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked and signposted.
    • The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 254cm (width) x 485cm (depth).
    • The hatched/marked zones vary between bays.
    • The width of the marked zone is 130cm.
    • The dimensions of the designated Blue Badge parking bays vary in size.

      The underground car park contains standard parking spaces only and access to the building from this area of the car park is via the basement entrance only - there is no pedestrian access from here to ground level.
  • Charges and Restrictions View
    • This car park is for Blue Badge holders and staff permit holders only.
    • Parking is free for all users.
    • Clearly presented parking signs are available.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Points View
    • There are 2 electric vehicle charging points.
    • The dimensions of the surveyed electric vehicle charging bay are 245cm (width) x 455cm (depth).
    • The nozzle holster is not at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
    • The charging points require an app.
    • There are no electric vehicle charging points designated for Blue Badge holders.
  • Drop-off Point View
    • There is not a designated drop-off point available.
  • Public Car Parks View
    • There is a public car park located on the opposite side of Meadow Road to the building.

Entrance (Rear Entrance)

  • This entrance is located to the rear of the building, leading in from the surface level of the car park.
  • The approach to the entrance has uneven surfaces and bollards.

  • The reception is located diagonally to the right and then straight ahead beyond the lift as you enter the building through the rear entrance.

  • The most accessible route to reception has automatic doors and narrow walkways.
  • There is step-free level access to reception.
  • The height of the reception desk is 104cm.
  • There is not a lowered section at the desk.
  • The reception has glazed screens.
  • There is not a hearing assistance system.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise in this area.
  • Some flooring is shiny.
  • Lighting levels vary due to the use of large glazed walls.

  • The basement, ground floor, first floor, second floor and third floor (B, G, 1, 2 and 3) are accessed by this lift.
  • The lift door has a high visual contrast.
  • The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
  • The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
  • All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
