Summary (Sea Lion Bay)

Getting Help and Assistance

  • There is a member of staff available for help and assistance.
  • There is not a member of staff trained in British Sign Language.
  • There is not an assistance dog toilet or toileting area at the venue/nearby.
  • Water bowls for assistance dogs are available.
  • There are mobility aids available.

Enclosure (Sea Lion Bay)

  • This enclosure is outdoor.
  • Sea Lion Bay is located close to Shipwreck Coast and Wild Woods.
  • There is not step-free level access throughout this area.
  • Some flooring in the area is smooth and even.
  • Where the flooring is not smooth or even, this is due to uneven paving/tiles.
  • Information in this area includes the following formats: information board.
  • There was not a keeper in the enclosure at the time of the survey.
  • There is tiered seating within the enclosure.
  • There is a low level viewing area at 64cm high.
  • Visitors cannot handle/touch animals in this area.
  • There are 2 bench seats close to the underwater viewing windows at the left side of the enclosure.
    There is steep slope on the path leading down to this area.
    There are also slight slopes on the block paving surface around the enclosure.

Access To (Tiered Viewing Areas)

  • There are two raised viewing areas with 4-5 stone tiers at the rear and side of Sea Lion Bay.
    Both areas have stepped access.
    One area has clear markings on the steps and wooden bannisters but the other does not.
  • There are 7-8 steps .
  • The height of the step(s) is/are not between the recommended 15cm and 18cm.
  • The depth of the step(s) is/are not between the recommended 30cm and 45cm.
  • Handrails do not cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • Handrails are not easy to grip.
  • Handrails do not extend horizontally beyond the first and last steps.
