Summary
- The distance from South Road to St Aidan's College via Elvet Hill Road and Mill Hill Lane is approximately 450m.
- The route from South Road to Van Mildert College is approximately 300m.
- There are steep slopes along the route.
- There are also roads you must cross that do not have drop kerbs.
- The surfaces along the route are either block paved or tarmac.
South Road to Elvet Hill Road
- Cross South Road just before the crossing to Hollingside Lane.
- There are traffic lights with a height of 104cm.
- There are tactile drop kerbs on either side of the of the tarmac road.
- The traffic lights and crossing are shown in photographs 1 - 3.
- Turn left after crossing the road and head towards Elvet Hill Road.
- The surface of the pavement is tarmac.
- After a few metres from the crossing there is a section of tactile paving (photograph 4).
- The distance from the crossing to Elvet Hill Road is approximately 80m along the tarmac pavement visible in photographs 5 - 9.
Elvet Hill Road to Mill Hill Lane
- Turn right and head along Elvet Road for approximately 50m until you reach the service road into a car park. (Photograph 1-3)
- The surface of the pavement is tarmac.
- At the tactile drop kerb cross the main road to your left and head for the drop kerb on the other side. (Photographs 4 - 7)
- Turn right and continue along the road for approximately 70m until you reach Mill Hill Lane.
Mill Hill Lane to Van Mildert College
- Turn left and head along Mill Hill Lane until you reach Van Mildert College a distance of approximately 80m.
- Approximately 20m after turning left (photographs 1 and 2), there is a service road.
- The service road has drop kerbs on either side. These are quite high with a height of 4cm on the near side and 6cm on the far side. The service road and its kerbs can be seen in photographs 3, 4 and 5.
- After crossing the service road the gradient of the path becomes steep as you proceed along Mill Hill Lane to Van Mildert College. (Photographs 6, 7 and 8)

Van Mildert College to Windmill Hill
- Continue along Mill Hill Lane for approximately 110m before crossing the road to reach Windmill Hill.
- There are drop kerbs either side of the road leading into the Van Mildert College - Main Building Car Park. The road can be seen in photographs 1 2 and 3.
- After this continue along the road which has steep slopes as you proceed. (Photographs 4, 5 and 6)
- There is a service road across a car park entrance with no drop kerbs on either side after approximately 80m which is visible in photographs 7, 8 ,9 and 10.
- Continue along Mill Hill Lane for another 30m. (Photographs 11 and 12)
- Take the first path to your right after crossing this service road which leads to Mill Hill Lane. (Photograph 13)
- The path is level with Mill Hill Lane. However there is no drop kerb on the far side. (Photographs 14 and 15).
Windmill Hill to St Aidan's College
- Turn left and head along the pavement along Windmill Hill.
- There is a small section of the pavement which has block paving as you turn left (photograph 1) but as you begin to proceed up Windmill Hill the pavement surface becomes tarmac (photograph 2).
- The slope along the pavement as you head up Windmill Hill is steep as shown in photographs 3 and 4.
- At the top of the slope continue along the pavement and you will find yourself in the centre of St Aidan's College (photographs 5 and 6).
- Continue along the tarmac path for approximately 90m (photographs 7, 8, 9 and 10).
- Part of the path is level with the road and has the car parking to the right (photographs 8 and 9). Cars at this point occasionally cross the path.
- After 90m you will see the main entrance to the St Aidan's College Main Building to your left across the road which is level with the pavement on both sides (photograph 10).
- Cross the road and head towards the entrance.
