South Road to Elvet Hill Road

  • Cross South Road just before the crossing to Hollingside Lane.
  • There are traffic lights with a height of 104cm.
  • There are tactile drop kerbs on either side of the of the tarmac road.
  • The traffic lights and crossing are shown in photographs 1 - 3.
  • Turn left after crossing the road and head towards Elvet Hill Road.
  • The surface of the pavement is tarmac.
  • After a few metres from the crossing there is a section of tactile paving (photograph 4).
  • The distance from the crossing to Elvet Hill Road is approximately 80m along the tarmac pavement visible in photographs 5 - 9.

Elvet Hill Road to Trevelyan College Entrance

  • Turn right and head along Elvet Hill Road until you reach Trevelyan College.
  • The surface of the pavement is tarmac.
  • After approximately 50m after entering Elvet Hill Road there is a service road into a car park. This service road has tactile drop kerbs on either side (photographs 4, 5 and 6).
  • Keep going along the road. After about 70m it will veer right.
  • Due to the presence of a lamp post, there is a width of only 70cm as the road veers right (photograph 10).
  • Head along the path for another twenty metres and you will come across the access road in to Trevelyan College.

  • The width of the pavement as you turn right is 90cm (photograph 12).

Trevelyan College to St Mary's College

  • Cross the Trevelyan College access road which has drop kerbs on either side (photographs 1 and 2).
  • After this continue along the road for approximately 250m until you reach the entrance road into St Mary's College.
  • The path is tarmac and very uneven in places.
  • The pavement has slight slopes towards road and going downhill along the pavement (photographs 3, 4, 5, 6 ,7 and 8).
  • There are some drop kerbs for drive ways and parking spots along the road. As shown in photograph 8.
  • Continue along the pavement (photographs 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) and St Mary's College will be on your right.

St Mary’s College to Potter's Bank

  • Cross the St Mary’s College entrance road crossing and then cross Elvet Hill Road at the Pedestrian crossing to reach Potter's Bank.
  • The St Mary’s College entrance road crossing has no drop kerbs on either side of the tarmac road as shown in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
  • Keep heading going along the tarmac path until you reach the road crossing across Elvet Hill Road (photograph 4).
  • There are tactile drop kerbs on either side of the road and there is a tactile central island on either side of the road (photographs 5, 6, 7 and 8).
  • Upon crossing the road turn right to reach Potter's Bank (photograph 9)
  • Turn right and head up the road.

Potter's Bank to Chevallier Court

  • Turn left and continue along Potter's Bank until you reach Chevallier Court a distance of approximately 310m.
  • There is a slight slope along Potter's Bank as you head along it however as you progress the road it becomes steep.
  • Along the road after approximately 70m there is a service road with drop kerbs on either side visible in photographs 3, 4 and 5.
  • After this road the uphill gradient of the pavement becomes increasingly steep.
  • Shortly before reaching Chevallier Court the uphill steep slope ceases and is replaced by a slight downhill slope (photographs 15, 16, 17 and 18).
  • There is a drive way on approach to Chevalier Court which is visible in photograph 15.
  • On the opposite side of the road to the crossing across Chevalier Court is located the service road to the Observatory, Observatory House and Observatory Cottage.

Chevalier Court to Darlington Road

  • Cross Chevallier Court and head along Potter's Bank for approximately 415m until you reach Darlington Road.
  • Chevallier Court has drop kerbs on either side of the tarmac road which can be seen in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
  • As you proceed along Potter's Bank there is a continuous uphill slope which changes between being slight and steep.
  • As you proceed along Potter's Bank approximately 250m after Chevalier Court you will encounter Potter's Close. This tarmac road has drop kerbs on either side and is visible in photographs 15, 16 and 17.
  • After crossing, continue onwards for approximately another 40m and you will encounter Bell's Folly. This tarmac road also has drop kerbs on either side and is visible in photographs 20, 21 and 22.
  • After this proceed onwards for approximately 100m until you reach Darlington Road.

Darlington Road to Dalton Crescent

  • On reaching Darlington Road turn right and cross Potters Bank before continuing along Darlington Road for approximately 250m to reach Dalton Crescent.
  • The pedestrian crossing across Potter's Bank has traffic lights with tactile drop kerbs and controls for the lights at a height of 108cm. The crossing is visible in photographs 1 - 4.
  • After the crossing turn left and head Darlington Road there will be a slight downhill gradient as you do so.
  • Approximately 20m from the Potter's Bank crossing there is a section of tactile paving to be bypassed as you proceed down Darlington Road visible in photographs 6 and 7.
  • Continue down Darlington Road which has a tarmac pavement as you do so the gradient will slowly become less steep and will soon became mostly level
  • As you proceed there are drop kerbs for some housing shown in photographs 7 and 8.
  • As you approach Dalton Crescent there is a section of tactile paving for a crossing across Darlington Road shown in photograph 10.
  • Proceed onwards to reach Dalton Crescent as shown in photographs 11 and 12.

Dalton Crescent to Ustinov College

  • Head through Dalton Crescent and into Sheraton Park a distance of approximately 120m.
  • Turn right into Dalton Crescent from Darlington Road.
  • The width of the pavement accessing Dalton Crescent is restricted by plant growth leaving an 85cm gap. This area also has a tactile drop kerb. This can be seen in photographs 1 and 2.
  • After this there is a slight slope uphill as you head up Dalton Crescent (photograph 3).
  • As you continue up the hill there is a tactile drop kerb which you should continue past (photograph 4).
  • In front of you will be a drop kerb which you should use to cross the road.
  • There is another drop kerb on the other side which can be seen in photographs 6, 7 and 8.
  • Use the passageway to your left to access Sheraton Square.
  • The gaps to access the passageway here are either 122cm or 134cm. As shown in photograph 9.
  • The passage has brick block paving to its left and right and tarmac in the middle. As shown in photograph 10 and 11.
  • After exiting the passageway head up the slight slope directly in front of you which will take you into the centre of Ustinov College with Sheraton House and Neville House to your left and right.
  • The central area of the college has brick block paving as well as bench and table seating available.
