Getting To The Hospital

By Road
View

Lister Hospital is easily accessed from the North or South using the A1(M).
From the A1(M) come off at Junction 8 in Stevenage and follow the A602 up the mini roundabout.
At the roundabout take the first exit onto Coreys Mill Lane.
The main entrance to the Lister Hospital is located off Coreys Mill Lane. - There is a multi-storey car park on site for patients and visitors.
There are also standard on street parking bays on Coreys Mill Lane.

By Bus

- There are two bus stops just outside the grounds of the hospital.
Bus stop A buses include: 55, 80, 300, 301, 386, 390 and 635.
Bus stop B buses include: 55, 80, 300, 301, 386, 390, 635, SB8 and SB9. - There is an onsite bus stop.
- The bus stops are located at the front of the hospital on Coreys Mill Lane.
- The two bus stops are fully sheltered and have benched seating. There is limited space for a wheelchair user.

Getting Help and Assistance

- The car park is multi-storey.
- The car park surface consists of tarmac.

- The Blue Badge bays are clearly marked.
- The surveyed Blue Badge parking bay dimensions are 230cm (width) x 470cm (depth).
- There is a marked zone to both sides and rear.
- The width of the marked zone is 128cm.
- The nearest designated bay is 10m from the multi-storey car park lift.
- The most accessible route from the Blue Badge parking has step-free level access, a lift, manual doors and doors permanently held open.

Getting To (Ward 9A)
- Ward 9A is/are located on level 9 of the main hospital building.

- After entering the hospital via the main entrance proceed past reception into the main corridor. Go straight ahead and follow the corridor right to the end. At the end of the corridor turn right into the lift lobby. Take a lift up to level 9 and the ward is located to the right/left as you exit the lift lobby area.
- There is step free access, via lift, to Ward 9A.
- Ward 9A is approximately 7m from the Lift lobby level 9.
- There are resting areas along the route.
- Wayfinding signage is provided.
- Dementia friendly signage is not provided.
- There is some flooring in corridors which is shiny and could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
- There is some flooring in corridors which includes patterns or colours which could be confusing or look like steps or holes to some people.
Entrance (Main Entrance)
- This entrance is located on the right side of the hospital building.
- The entrance area is clearly signed.
- There is step-free level access at the entrance.
- There is an intercom at a height of 113cm.
- The height of the hand sanitiser is 96cm.
- The width of the opening is 229cm.
- There is a second set of double automatic doors.
- The second set of doors are permanently held open.
- The width of the opening is 187cm.
- There is a small lip on the threshold of the opening.
- The second set of doors have a high visual contrast.
- This entrance brings you into level 3 of the Blue Zone.
Lift (Orange Zone Lifts)
- The lift surveyed is located ahead, at the end of the corridor as you enter via the main entrance, on the right.
- The distance from the main entrance is 85m.
- The most accessible route to the lift has step-free level access and doors permanently held open.
- Level 2, level 3, level 4, level 5, level 6, level 7, level 8, level 9, level 10 and level 11 are accessed by this lift.
- The lift door has a high visual contrast.
- The lift has a level manoeuvring space in front of it for a wheelchair user (150cm x 150cm).
- The external lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
- All of the external lift controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- The lift door opening width is 105cm.
- The internal dimensions of the lift are 186cm (width) x 129cm (depth).
- The internal lift control buttons have tactile markings and a high visual contrast.
- The majority of the internal controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user.
- Internally the lift has: a mirror to aid reversing, a hearing assistance alarm system, a visual floor indicator, an audible announcer and a list of floor services/facilities.
- Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
- There are other lifts available at this location which are of a similar size.
Stairs (Orange Zone Stairs)
- The stairs surveyed are located ahead, at the end of the corridor as you enter the main entrance.
- There are double manual doors to access the stairwell.
- Level 2, level 3, level 4, level 5, level 6, level 7, level 8, level 9, level 10 and level 11 can be accessed by these stairs.
- There are 20+ steps between floors.
- The steps have low visual contrast markings and have handrails on both sides.
- The handrails are easy to grip.
- The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
- The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
- The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
- The height of the highest step is 17cm.
- The depth of the steps is not between 30cm and 45cm.
- Lighting levels were uneven at the time of the survey, with pools of light and shade.
Ward (9A)
- Unable to Survey due to covid outbreak on ward - 28/09/21.
Location of Toilet/Changing Facilities
- Accessible toilet facilities are located on the ground floor (level 3) and level 9 of the tower block.
- Female and male standard toilet facilities are located on the ground floor (level 3).
- Shared standard toilet facilities are located in the lift lobby of level 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
