Access To (Motor Vehicle Workshop Room 6)

  • Motor Vehicle Workshop Room 6 is located within the Main Building to the west of The Core, Learning Resource Centre and Tower Block.
  • The main access route to the Motor Vehicle Workshop is through The Core.
    After exiting The Core there is a corridor with six steps enroute to the Motor Vehicle Workshop.
    There are also manual doors enroute to the Motor Vehicle Workshop Room 6 entrance.

  • The most accessible route has steps and manual doors.
  • There are 6 steps with handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are not easy to grip.
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The handrails extend horizontally beyond the first and last step.
  • The steps are clearly marked.
  • The height of the steps is between 15cm and 18cm.
  • The height of the highest step is 18cm.
  • There is written text and numbered signage on or near the entrance.
  • There is step-free level access into Motor Vehicle Workshop Room 6 from the corridor.
  • There is a single manual door which opens away from you.
  • The width of the opening is 75cm.
  • The door has a high visual contrast.

Area (Workshop)

  • There is a set of manual double doors with a width of 156cm and high colour contrast that open away from you between the main workshop area of the Motor Vehicle Workshop and the seminar room area.
  • Facilities available in this area include: the Motor Vehicle Workshop, workbenches, computer desk, seminar room and a standard changing room.
  • There is step-free level access throughout the area.
  • Access throughout the area may include manual doors and narrow walkways.
  • There is room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre (150cm x 150cm).
  • The flooring is shiny.
  • The walls and floor have a high visual contrast.
  • Seating available in this area includes: chairs without armrests.
  • Furniture available in this area includes: tables and desks.
  • Some tables are fixed.
  • Some surface heights are suitable for wheelchair users.
  • The clear underside space of some surfaces is suitable for wheelchair users.

  • The changing room surveyed is located within the seminar room.
  • The most accessible route to the changing room has step-free level access.
  • There is step-free level access into the changing room.
  • The door opens outwards and has a high visual contrast.
  • The width of the door opening is 80cm.
  • Internally the door has a high visual contrast.
  • Additional features include: a shelf.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
