Follow the A690 for 0.7 miles. At the roundabout take the second exit to continue along the A690. After 0.3 miles, at the roundabout, take the third exit onto Sutton Street/A690. Follow Sutton Street/A690 for 0.9 miles. At the traffic lights turn right onto Crossgate Peth/A690. Continue to follow the A690, proceeding straight ahead at the traffic lights and junction with the A167 after 0.5 miles. Continue along Neville's Cross Bank/A690 for 0.4 miles. At the roundabout take the first exit onto A690. Follow the A690 for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto Mill Road, signposted Durham City Golf Club. Follow Mill Road, turning right onto Rosebay Road after 0.6 miles. Continue along Rosebay Road for 0.3 miles, and the entrance to the Golf Club is on the right, just before the end of the road. The entrance is signed, and continues straight ahead along a narrow access road with passing points.
      From A167 - Follow the A167 to Neville's Cross. At the junction with the A690 follow the A690 towards Crook. Continue along Neville's Cross Bank/A690 for 0.4 miles. At the roundabout take the first exit onto A690. Follow the A690 for 0.3 miles. Turn left onto Mill Road, signposted Durham City Golf Club. Follow Mill Road, turning right onto Rosebay Road after 0.6 miles. Continue along Rosebay Road for 0.3 miles, and the entrance to the Golf Club is on the right, just before the end of the road. The entrance is signed, and continues straight ahead along a narrow access road with passing points.

Golf Course

  • The Durham City Golf Club is open to members and visitors.
  • The course has 18 holes.
  • There are gravel paths located at various places around the course, leading between each hole and the next tee.
  • There are benches located at the majority of the tees.
  • There are golf buggies available to hire.
  • There is a charge for use of the golf buggies.
  • There is a steep sloped path leading from the rear of the clubhouse to the first tee.
  • The course has White Tees which are used for competitions, Yellow Tees for general social rounds and seniors, Red Tees for Ladies and Blue Tees for juniors and beginners. The Blue Tees are measured and allow beginners and juniors an opportunity to play a measured round and gain handicaps.
  • There are steps leading up to both the White Tee and Yellow Tee at the first tee, but there is step free access to the Red/Ladies Tee (shown in photographs 3-5).
  • There is a steep slope leading from the tee to the fairway on all tees.
  • The Blue/Juniors Tee is on the fairway for all holes.
  • There are slight and steep slopes throughout the course.
  • There are no public footpaths crossing the holes.
  • There are bridges that are used to cross small streams leading to the Winter 11th and the 12th Tees and back on the 12th fairway (shown in photographs 12-14).

  • The club advise that visitors with mobility impairments may have difficulty with the White and Yellow Tees on a number of holes, including the summer 10th/winter 9th, 14th, and 17th, and the White Tee on the 16th.
  • Other tees are accessed by steps, but these may be overcome by using slopes, or driving a buggy or mobility scooter up a gravelled slope to gain level access.
  • Photographs 15-17 show the steps and slope to the White Tee of the 3rd hole. This is also the White Tee for the 18th hole which is approached from the top of the slope.
  • The majority of the steps do not have handrails.
  • There is a handrail on the left going up the steps at the summer 7th (shown in photographs 18 and 19) which can be overcome by using a buggy to the top of the slope (shown in photograph 20).
  • There are handrails on both sides of the steps at the winter 11th (shown in photographs 24 and 25).
